If we go on a long journey it is usually with my parents in their people carrier – and it is fitted with built in dvd players with head phones!  The boys tend to play with their Nintendos and the girls actually like to read or draw!  We do play the odd I Spy Games too or ‘When I went on holiday, in my case I packed….’ games but the kids seem to like doing their own thing!  They are not bad travellers – luckily!

We have just come back from driving to and from Germany with a 13month old. Cloth books, squeeky toys and puppets entertained him there and back

I drew some roads on card then laminated them so that they will wipe clean. The kids draw on things that interest them as we travel. We normally end up with things like 3 legged dogs and takeaways rather than castles and lakes (my kids are strange.lol)

 Wow – love this – what a fantastically themed car for jubilee year.  My little boy would look super cool in this!!

My son likes to listen to music in the ca. his favorite songs are lady gaga marry the night and stevie wonder

Usually count an object, I-spy, singing various nursery rhymes, and also because my daughter is learning to read, we keep pointing at signs and talk about what they say, other than that a portable dvd player never fails!

They have all of their fav music on ipods and we just plug it into the car and they are happy!

We haven’t done many long car journeys but in the few we have I have prayed she falls asleep for most part of it and then sing loudly for the remaining part!!

Play music, eye spy, count certain coloured cars.

We sing, look for different makes and types of vehicle and, when all else fails, put a favourite DVD  in the portable player!

Portable DVD player and lots of food!

With my older boys we play games like I spy and animal,vegetable,mineral. With the youngest we just point out things like trees and animals and try to prevent him being sick

First one to spot a …yellow van,  first one to spot a green lorry…first one to spot a bus..first one to spot a blue car…first one to spot a monkey swinging in the trees..that keeps them quiet for a while haha

Songs and Games and if all else fails the DS 

We have the in-car DVD players so they can watch their favourite DVD’s, we also play lots of silly travel games and break up the journey with a couple of stops!

We have a car backpack with books – reading, drawing & puzzle and suitable car toys.  Or we invent stories, play I-Spy (by colours as well as letters) etc

Spot the lorry… We each pick a brand and have to see how many of that lorry we can spot e.g tesco, M&S…

I never managed to figure out how to stop my son from being a right pain in the butt on long car journeys despite toys, games, I spy, spotting phone boxes/letter boxes etc.  It got to the point where he didn’t want to go anywhere brilliant if it involved a trip in the car.  Grrrrr!  Now he has left home, loves driving and has his own family…payback time Mwahahahaha!  Thanks for the competition, that would make a lovely present to pass on to my son for my grandaughter.

 I tend to let my eldest play on my phone

Different activities every half hour – little toys, books, stickers, colouring stuff – all new to the children, picked up cheaply and hidden until the right time!

Previously a big bag of toys and books and games.  Next long journey we’ll probably sacrific the ipad… ;0)

Luckily our son likes our music so we stick on one of our CDs and he taps his feet to the music.

They are young. So I sing songs. Put dangle toys on there car seat and my toddler girl sometimes gets most of the contents of my handbag to keep her entertained.

With singing, books and games such as “can you see a…”. We have recently bought my son a DVD player that fits on the headrest that keeps him amused on really long journeys as he can watch all his fave DVDs

recently we travelled 400 miles to stay with my parents , my little one was happy colouring for some of the time but after a while got bored so i created a list of things for him to look for out of the windows , like a dog , 3 green cars  etc and with a little help from his big brother he loved every min of it !

With this prize they could lie back and dream of england and just enjoy the journey.

mine are not too bad they like going in the car so i dont have to do that much to entertain them and they sleep for most!

We entertain our little one with toys and pictures stuck to the back of the seat for him to look at. Then we provide plenty of healthy snacks which keep him busy. If all fails, daddy will join him and provide entertainment

We sing a lot. I often get strange looks when I pull up at traffic lights and my window is down and I’m singing ‘the wheels on the bus’ or ‘old macdonald’ – they can’t always see Daisy in the back so I look a right idiot!

My son is a little to young for I Spy so we play the ‘I can see’ game and we cannot say something someone else has already mentioned.

The Ipad is great for long journeys, loaded with educational games.

We play the Mini game – each child is given a colour and the first one to spot 10 Minis in that colour wins.

we have a portable dvd player so we will strap that to the back of the car seat. We haven’t used it yet but will on the next long car journey. We also do the usual songs and she has lots of lamaze toys to look at xx

She is still only 9 months so tends to sleep most of the way. However I ensure I have a bag full of toys and books ready to pass back to her should she wake! Sophie Giraffe tends to regularly save the day!

We try to do long journeys at night, so they are asleep. During the day we have DSi, DVD player and I Spy is a favourite, as well as other spotting items games
