For Daddy Vs Work 30th Birthday I wanted to get him that extra special birthday present. I was stuck for ideas when someone at his work mentioned going to watch Manchester United play.
Trying to get tickets for a game at Old Trafford is a nightmare! Everytime I’ve applied, I’ve failed. Then it was suggested to try a package from Thomas Cook Sport. For our package we could get a ticket to the tour and museum (which can be taken anytime within 12 months of booking) one nights stay in a local hotel with bed and breakfast plus a ticket for the game all included in the price.
Back in February I went ahead and booked our weekend away. Looking at the fixtures and working around our holiday plus our friends work we decided we might as well go for the last game of the season. At this point the title race was still wide open and little did we know what else would happen before the game!
Booking via Thomas Cook Sport was quick and simple and it wasn’t long before I was able to book our museum tour.
In the weeks building up to our trip Manchester United were crowned champions and the week of our trip both Sir Alex Ferguson and Paul Scholes announced their retirement so we knew there was going to be an amazing atmosphere at the ground.
Traveling up on the Saturday we headed straight to the ground for our tour and museum visit. The process was really simple and we headed off for our tour. We spent over 2 hours on our tour and another few hours in the megastore and around the ground soaking up the atmosphere which was building.
The museum and tour are a great place to visit if you’re a football fan. There is so much you don’t get to see on the tv and it makes you feel closer to the action. We saw the ground being prepared for the game the next day, adding to the excitement.
We then headed to our hotel, Bewleys hotel near Manchester airport. The hotel was clean and well-managed. We checked in no problem and were handed our tickets at the reception at this point. At this point they had become gold dust!
That night we enjoyed a meal in the hotel bar, I have to say the meal was tasty and the bar was a reasonable price with plenty of space. We settled in to watch the FA cup final and it was safe to say we was in the red side of Manchester when Wigan scored!
Our room was spacious and clean with everything you needed for a night away. Even though we were close to the airport it was surprisingly quiet. Breakfast the next day was tasty and they had a wide selection to choose from in the restaurant and it set us up nicely for the day.
Heading to the ground early ready for the big day we found a little car park and walked the rest of the way. I was so pleased we parked a little while away after the game as 75,000 fans spilled onto the Manchester street. Our seats were a little up in the heavens but the view was unblocked and it did not deter from the occasion.
I think it is safe to say Daddy Vs Work had a birthday present to remember and he enjoyed it so much, he’s already planning to return for his birthday next season!
We received a 10% discount for this review however it is completely unbiased and we would have purchased the package regardless.
