Making money from home

I’ve been a big fan of EmmaDrew.info for some time and her blog has made me think about what we can do from home to boost income and cut costs.

Inspired by her monthly reports I decided that this month would be the month that I would set myself targets to reach, no more excuses or reasons as to why we couldn’t do it.

So with that in mind I set my targets.

My aim for this month was to make £1000 extra, this was to be done over two parts.

Firstly I want to make £500 from my blog and freelance work (ideally net of tax but to reach my target I’ll take gross for this month!). I have worked hard on my blog over a number of years and have made some good contacts and built the blog reach up along the way. This has been fortunate enough for me to bring in a little money on my blog over the year.

Combining this with my freelance work I was hopefully that I the figure I set would be achievable through advertising, sponsored posts and affiliate marketing.

Making money on the blog though hasn’t happened overnight. It has taken years to get to a nice amount but I am a long way off it being my full-time salary. UK Credit have done a great post about blogging to pay the bills and some really helpful tips on where to get started.

This year though I really do want to push on with the blog and focus on it more, I would love to be in a position where I could reduce my working hours and do more freelance bits, be it through blogging for myself or for brands and companies.

I am investing more time into my blog and trying to build up my social media reach but it can be hard at times, for example the time is currently 9.35pm and I have been awake since 6.30am to get to work and do a full day at work before even thinking about blogging! It has become a bit of a juggling act along the way.

I’ve also booked onto my first ever blogging conference in the hope that I can build some confidence but also the knowledge I need to push on.

I am also working freelance on social media through my company Pink Kandi Media, it’s not really something I have been able to focus too much time on recently but I am working to keep going on it so it becomes a steady stream of income and possibly my way to get out of finance all together.

The second target I set myself was to make £500 through my matched betting.

My matched betting journey although not been consistent it has made money and my initial outlay of £130 has increased by over 2000% in the last 9 months. Again though like the blogging I need to focus more on this, however it is looking good this month that we may just reach the target with less than 10 days to go.

Looking at my targets I do think that they are both achievable, it’s now down to me to focus my spare time and knuckle down with the hard work. I will be letting you know at the end of the month if i reach my target!
