Being a grown up

Sometimes you have to just admit that you are getting old… you are “grown up”

Ok maybe at times you don’t behave like one all the time, you laugh when the kids pop off or you laugh at your own jokes but there are times when it gets serious.

Remortgaging *shudders* is one of those times.

We’ve lived in our current house since we brought it back in 2007. It’s our home, it’s a place we brought our babies home to.

It’s also the place that nearly slipped away from us with Northern Rock going in to administration. Our first house got pulled 2 weeks before we completed after we had gone through all the legal paperwork and surveys and then they changed their mind. Then we found this house.

It was the place that as we were completing the week before Christmas news broke that Northern Rock were in trouble and we just kept fingers and toes crossed that it wasn’t the case and we would get our home.

We did get it, then welcomed our own little family in it.

However we have been stuck for the last 7 1/2 years on an interest only mortgage and once we came off our fixed rate we got stuck on the NRAM rate that was so high.

It was a case of being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

We couldn’t sell up as the prices dropped and that also meant we were unable to remortgage so just had to stuck up the cost and hope we could do something in coming years.

Well we finally have.

After 3 1/2 long months of trying to get our remortgage done it’s all signed and sealed.

Our home is now on a fixed rate for the next 5 years but more importantly we are on a repayment mortgage, so for the first time in 7 1/2 years, on the 1st July we will finally start to reduce on mortgage.

It’s been hard work, time-consuming and so stressful at times that I have cried. However we got there!

Now we are on to the planning stage of saving for our extension to make our little family home more suitable for us to grow up in and I can’t wait. I feel like we are finally going to make headway with our home 🙂

I remember when I first got my mortgage, I felt such a grown up after all of the struggle to finally get the home I really wanted, but now I’ve realised, you don’t actually grow up, you just take on more responsibility, I might be responsible, but I’m never intending to grow up!
