We are huge Nerf fans in this household and have had a range of their crossbows and guns over the years.
Each time they come out there is always a sense of family fun to be had no matter how old you are! The only drawback at times (especially when you have dogs!) is the picking up of the foam bullets to reuse them over time.
Nerf, however, has now launched a new product that does not require these any more. Let me introduce you to the Nerf Laser Ops Pro.
These clever guns use laser technology to play instead of the need for the foam bullets. This set comes with two Alphapoint blasters and two phone wrist straps, perfect to get you started.
Now the first thing to note is there are a few ways to play this set, you can play straight out of the box, you can play using the apps downloaded onto your phone, which in turn you strap to your wrist using the strap or the last option is to play singleplayer mode.
Let’s look at the straight out of the box option first.
This is the best option for those with younger children, no risk of your phone getting bashed in their hurry to take out the opponent.
Simply get both blasters out of the box and insert 4 AA batteries, then you are ready to go. Each of the blasters has a health and ammo light one them which work like traffic lights. Green show you have lots of both, red and flashing you are in trouble.
There is a quick reload button and if you stay out of aim for a while your health does regenerate. Once you’re out of the game you can come back into the game once the countdown is over, this is indicated by the sound and flashing light.
This is the fun free for all option. Easy to do and can last as long or as short as you want.
The other option is to download the app which gives you’re a more advanced gameplay. The blasters work in exactly the same way as the straight out of the box options but you have additional options.
Through the app, you can play a timed game, shots and kills are recorded along with the options to upgrade your blaster as you earn points. These could include your shots hitting doubly as hard or extra health.
Neither Kayleigh and Ethan have an iPhone however we downloaded the app onto their iPad and they were able to play it through there, leaving it in their safe location whilst they played.
There is the option to play a single player mode however the attachment is not included in this set and as of yet, I have not seen it for sale individually at the moment, just with the purchase of a standalone blaster (which you can see here). I would like to see that as an option moving forward as it would be great for the kids to play on their own should someone else not want to play along.
We have played lots of games both ways and they have loved them either way.
Another great feature is the outdoor/indoor mode, this changes the strength of the laser so make sure you are set to the right mode before you start playing.
Overall we have loved these and can’t wait to see how the range develops from here, the £45 price tag is good value for money especially for a Nerf product. If you have any questions on these please feel free to pop them below!
