Why do public figure mum’s feel the need to put other mum’s down?!

So last week Cherie Blair declared that SAHM are so-called “Yummy Mummies” who put their children before a career and make their children part of a generation who can’t live without their parents.

What a load of crap.

Firstly, what does that make me then? Am I a “Slummy Mummy” as I work and don’t have time to make myself yummy?! Apparently according to her women set a better example by working and providing for their family. Surely as a parent our job is to set an example on how to live in a society rocked by debt thanks to our government. Its how to bring our children up to be polite, well-mannered and most of all a well-rounded individual who have the confidence and knowledge to succeed in their chosen career path.

Her comments really grate on me if I am completely honest. If I had the choice of working or spending it with my children before they started school, I’d be at home within a shot. Those first few years are the most magical years, they are also the years where children develop and grow in so many ways. There is nothing stopping women from starting a career and then taking a career break to have their family IF THEY WANT TO…. this is what it all comes down to at the end of the day.

It’s a choice that only the parents can make. If they decide to and more importantly can afford to, why should a mum (or dad for that matter) not spend those first few years raising their children?

I pay god knows how much money into my taxes so why should I not work fewer hours if we as a couple can afford to, so I can spend some quality time with my children? She also commented on that you shouldn’t rely on a man bringing money in just incase something happens to him but surely if you are worried about this you look into life insurance, I have it as does my partner as you never know what is around the corner.

But do you know what really gets to me in this all?!

Why is it always someone with more money than sense that feels she has the right to make mum’s feel like crap & insecure?! Not everyone has had the luxury of having jobs that work round our children or on call nannies/cooks or cleaners to help out at home. Mum’s (Working and SAHM) have to make the best of what we’ve got & we don’t need anyone putting us down… least of all someone who gets paid to talk & cause a hype in the media.
