Taking a few home comforts on holiday

Lots of us will be planning our breaks for this summer and beyond, in fact, many of us are probably already organised for this year!

Let’s be honest though, us Brits are creatures of comfort really. We like to feel like we are at home no matter where we may be.

For example, if you are reading this and have been on holiday in the last 12 months, how many of you took tea bags with you in your suitcase? We like our tea and tend to stick to a brand we love.

We’ve done it ourselves when we have been away, we’ve dropped our bags into the room and headed to the local supermarket nearby to stock up on the favourites such as tea bags and cereal! We do however like to try out the local foods too and there are some that we love and always get them again whilst we are out there.

So, when you go away on holiday, you try to find those home comforts and for many of us that may include watching our favourite tv show whilst we are away.

In some countries, it seems to be easier than others to keep up to date with what is going on at home. In fact, when we went abroad to Cyprus there was even more choice in English football than there is at home! However, it was really hard to keep up to date with the latest news and sports news as the channels were quite limited there. It is the same when we head to Lanzarote too, just less sport to pick from there!

Did you know though that you that you can keep up to date on all your favourite programs on things like BBC iPlayer by using something called VPN. It is a geo-spoof your location to make it appear like you’re in another country. So, whilst you are away you can make it appear like you are in the UK and still log in to things like your iPlayer account not missing a program if you like to catch up in the evenings!

VPN works by using a site to direct your signal from a UK IP address which fools the sites that are UK based in to thinking you are still in the UK. It is a great way to keep the kids entertained in the evenings if they like to settle down to watch their favourite shows.

For just a few pounds for a month, you can use it whilst you are away without much stress at all. If you are going away any time soon, why not give it a try.

What is your creature comfort when you head away? Is it your favourite food or do you like to keep up to date with your favourite soaps? Either way, I hope this has helped if you are heading for your summer break this year.
