Too Much On Your Plate? Here’s What To Do

#Collaborative post

If you feel like you have too much on your plate, it’s important to do something about it before you seriously begin to struggle. People who try to carry on as normal when they have too much on their plates often feel frazzled and could end up suffering from burn out. Burnout is a real condition that can take months to come back from – it’s complete physical and mental exhaustion, and is not something that should be taken lightly.

If you feel like you have too much on your plate but you’re not sure what to do, here’s an idea of the steps to take before you feel too overwhelmed to deal with it all:

  • Speak To Your Boss

Assuming you have a boss and you don’t work for yourself, it could be time to ask for a meeting with them to discuss your workload. They may be able to reduce it for the time being or give you a different kind of work that you feel better equipped to deal with. They may even give you a few mental health days away from work. Even if work isn’t really the problem, explaining your situation to your boss and being transparent will go in your favour if your work does begin to suffer because of what you are going through. Hopefully, they are approachable enough for you to be honest with them.

  • Ask For Help

We can’t expect to be superhuman and do everything ourselves all of the time. Some people may be able to do it all somehow, but everybody is different. Most people need help from the people around them. Ask for people to take care of your kids if you need them to. Find help from a licensed therapist. Ask somebody you love if they can do your food shopping for you. Reaching out to people can be scary at first, but you’ll soon realize that the people who love you really want to help you.

  • Take Care of Yourself

Now is the time to be gentle with yourself. Be kind as you talk to yourself and try to practice self care. Some people find that cbd for anxiety really helps them, but you should be cautious before trying anything new.

  • Figure Out Why You Have Too Much On Your Plate In The First Place

Now is a good time to figure out why you have too much on your plate. It may simply be a difficult time in your life and you couldn’t have stopped it even if you wanted to. However, many people do tend to say yes to things when they really want to say no, overloading their schedule and using up all of their time because they are people pleasers and don’t want to upset anybody. Learning to say no and set boundaries can be very difficult, but it’s crucial if you want to live a happy life. Start prioritizing your own time and the things you want to do, and be realistic about what you can achieve in a day/week.
