As gyms have closed and people are having to resort to home workouts to keep fit, one of the issues with doing this is that there is no expert there to make sure you’re doing your moves right so you don’t injure yourself or so that you get the desired results. So, what can do you to make sure that you are working out safely at home.

Make Sure You Have Enough Space

To start with, make sure you have enough space to do the activity you have chosen to do. Move tables and chairs out of the way if you need to and before you start, make sure you have enough room to stretch your arms out, lie on the floor, and move forward and back. It’s not just that you might bang into things, but if you’re working out and feeling restricted and worried about bumping into things or knocking things off shelves then you’re not going to work out as well as you would otherwise when you feel free.

Know Your Moves

If you’re following an online workout then they should instruct you on how to d a particular move properly and what’s great about doing this online is that you can pause or rewind to make sure you get it right. You could even watch the workout once before you do it so you know what to expect and practice moves you’re unsure of. If you are finding certain positions very uncomfortable or are causing you pain then ask an expert on a forum if you’re doing it right rather than continuing to do it wrong. For example, squats and knee pain are very common but that doesn’t mean you have to stop squatting because there are different squat variants you could try to get the right one for you.

Warm Up And Cool Down

Always make sure that you do a proper warm-up and cool down to reduce the risk of injury.

Try 10-15 minutes of dynamic, lower intensity movements to get the blood pumping and your heart racing. This could be jogging on the spot, high knees, jumping jacks, and air-boxing as these exercises get the whole body moving. It is important to stretch and cool down after your workout.

Sleep Well

Whether you’re working out at home or a gym, getting good sleep is critical as it affects everything from healing, recovery, metabolism, muscle growth, weight control, and your mental health. There are lots of tips online on how to get good sleep, so if this is something you struggle with but you want to work out at home, then if you want to see results you should try and fix the sleep issue too.

Stay Hydrated

Just like with working out anywhere else, it’s important to drink water before, during, and after your workout to avoid cramps, fatigue, and other cognitive issues. Just because you’re at home doesn’t mean that you can forget to fill up your water bottle, make sure you have it with you and within easy reach in your exercise space.
