*Review* Sykes Cottages, Gingerbread House

Recently we took a short weekend break at one of Sykes Cottages new getaway cottages, Gingerbread house.

Gingerbread House is one of 3 new cottages that they have to offer in their fairytale cottage section and is a sure hit with the kids.

One of the reasons I picked the Gingerbread House was the fact it looked like a sweet little place to stay in the beautiful forest but also the fact it has a live in-house keeper.

The live in-house keeper was an amazing addition to the house, she constantly had the broom out ensuring the house was clean and their was also a cauldron on the whole time so you could get a cuppa any time you fancied one. Kayleigh and Ethan were a bit wary of her at times as she was a little daunting at the beginning but soon they were all cackling away together.

The Gingerbread House itself was pretty spacious inside and comfortably slept 4 people between the double room and the twin room. Both bedrooms are fitted with these gorgeous marshmallow pillows and mattresses which made them the most comfortable nights sleep and best midnight snack ever.

We had a full board for our meals and they were all lovely but our favourite part of the food was actually the snacks. The entire house was edible which meant whenever you got hungry you could tuck in. My particular favourite though was the sugar wallpaper – delicious!

Locally the forest is full of wonderful woodland walks and adventures though it could be a bit tricky to find your way home so we’d recommend leaving yourself a trail to find your way home.

If you’re looking for somewhere to take the kids for an evening we would recommend the Ma Hubbard’s pub as this is full of great evening entertainment or Jack and Jill’s scenic hill-top restaurant, which has a great menu – just watch your step on the way back down if you’ve had a drink!

Overall we have loved every minute of our stay and most certainly are a bit plumper thanks to the lovely cakes we had with our hot chocolate thanks to our house keeper Mrs Witchy.

This stay is completely fictional as part of the fairytale cottages on Sykes Cottages – however it has been great fun to come up with and as a thank you Kayleigh and Ethan have received a voucher to continue their enjoyment of stories.
