Making the best of the space in a small bathroom

Making the best of the space in a small bathroom

#Gifted post – We were kindly gifted the washing basket featured in this post

With many homes, the bathrooms are not always the biggest space. It doesn’t mean that it is not practical for your family though, it may just need a different approach to how you make the most of the space. Using clever storage options or shelving can help make your bathroom feel a whole lot bigger, even if you have not got any extra floor space.

If you are looking for ways to make the space work for you, here are our tips on making the best of the space.

  • Keep it light – If you do not have huge floor space, using light tiles such as whites or creams will help bounce the light around. You can add bursts of colour using accessories, it is also easier to change your colour scheme as you need to. For example, you can look at putting a green rug or mat in here to brighten up the space, while also offering protection from the cold tile.
  • Bathroom storage – When you have a family, you will find your washing basket overflowing everywhere. It can be a bit tricky to find a place to put a normal washing basket, however, this wicker corner laundry basket from The Basket Company was the perfect one for our small bathroom. It takes up minimal space due to the shape however it holds enough washing for our busy family of 4. As with all the products we have had from The Basket Company, this is sturdy and works perfectly for the whole family. For many years we have had a square-shaped basket and it worked well, however, this corner shape actually works so much better for our space and still fits a busy household worth of clothes in there.
  • Add storage in clever ways – If your bathroom is small, make sure you make the most of the storage spaces you may have. There are plenty of great options for bathroom storage such as under the sink storage and wall storage. There are some clever items such as mirrors with hidden storage, they are perfect to maximise the space and bounce the light around too.

Before we brought this house I always thought we would need a bigger bathroom. Over time though I have got used to having the smaller bathroom and it has made me realise you don’t need too huge space but in fact just need to utilise the space you actually have. Making the most of the space is just as important as the space itself, there is no point in having a huge bathroom but not making the most of the space.

If you are fortunate enough to have a larger bathroom, I would recommend having a look at The Basket Company. As well as bathroom washing baskets they also have a wide range of baskets, plant pots and a whole host more of other options. When we eventually get our move to the country and have a bit more space I will be heading there for some new products for our home. All of the items we have had from them over the years have lasted so well, a worthy investment.
