It’s a great way to let them customize their room a little and it lets them decide based on their own preferences. There’s no guesswork involved and it gives them a bit more control over their environment which is never a bad thing. You can even get a little help from your child with painting the room, cleaning up or even decorating.
However, when picking the colour of your child’s room you should expect your child to change their mind a few times, especially if they’re known to be indecisive. You also need to consider that colour has the ability to inspire, soothe and even excite young children. They’re surprisingly sensitive when it comes to colour psychology, so you should always have the last say when it comes to painting their room or adding some unique wallpaper that they’ll see at all times.
Show off your hobbies
Another great way to personalize your family home is to show off your hobbies. You can do this in a number of ways, but here are a few suggestions:
- Don’t be afraid to hang up posters of your favourite series and TV shows. If you want to protect them and add a little style, try and frame them before hanging them up.
- Hang up any awards you’ve won or work that you’re proud of as a result of your hobbies. This can include your own drawings, crafts or even models that you’ve painted.
- Display your favourite hobby-focused equipment. For example, if you’re big on video games, then having entire shelves of your favourite games and a special television set up to play them on is a great way to express your love for the hobby.
There are many more ways to incorporate your hobbies into your decor, so it’s up to you to find those unique combinations and ideas. Don’t feel ashamed of the things you like. Instead, learn to express yourself and pick things that you love.
Consider canvas prints of your favourite photographs
A common thing to do when it comes to personalizing your home is adding photographs of your friends and family members around the house. In most cases, you’ll likely have some kind of picture frame that you can place many different photographs in. You might also have a few larger frames that you use for bigger photographs. If you’re lacking ideas then we suggest starting up a Pinterest board to keep track of all your ideas. A Pinterest board is like a scrapbook of ideas that you can refer back to at any time. You simply add the Pinterest addon to your browser and then any images you come across can be added to your boards. This is a fantastic way to get inspiration and allows you to explore unique ideas that you never considered before.
We suggest splitting your boards into different categories. For instance, you could make a board for your bedroom decor and another for bathroom ideas. This makes it easy for you to sort out your ideas and seek inspiration for specific decoration projects.
Make use of statement pieces
Statement furniture is anything that stands out in a room. It could be a large dining table with a unique design or it could be a large beautiful leather sofa. These statement pieces are a great way to express yourself and we’d highly recommend getting at least one centrepiece per room to attract peoples’ attention.
Alternatively, you could also have a large decorative statement piece. This could be a large unique painting on your wall, it could be a huge mirror or even a chandelier on your ceiling. There are plenty of unique options to pick from and we suggest doing a little shopping around and browsing to explore ideas.
Put your travel memorabilia on display
Lastly, we’d also suggest putting any travel memorabilia that you have on display. Take a look at these souvenir ideas to see what you should be looking out for the next time you travel. You’ll want to pick gifts and little trinkets that remind you of your travels.
You can place these on a shelf, you can hang them on the wall or you can store them in glass display cases.
