Summer is on the way here in the UK and due to the changing weather, many of us are still in limbo between the Winter and Summer wardrobe. However, the forecast is looking good and the sunshine appears to be here to stay for a while.
If you are anything like me though, your wardrobe is probably looking a little bare on the summer range, in fact, I think I am down to 2 pairs of shorts and 1 dress to get me through the summer. Never fear though, we have been looking around for the staple items you need to be popping in your shopping basket before the heat really ramps up.
White tops
A classic but goes with pretty much anything you are wearing, also are great for showing off sunkissed skin, once the sun is out a little more.
I have a couple of white tank tops but I plan on getting a few different styles so I can dress them up or down, depending on what I am up to. I always check the material of the white tops I buy though as I sometimes find them a little too see-through, so one thing to check before you purchase.
Beach cover-ups
The plan for us this summer is to be out in the garden a little more and enjoy our decking. With this in mind, I am going to invest in getting some new bikinis and tankinis to wear in the garden and some beach cover-ups.
This will allow me to be able to enjoy the sun but also get “dressed” for dinner etc, even if it is out on the decking. After all, eating whilst wearing a bikini just doesn’t quite feel the same in the UK sunshine! Kaftans are perfect for this as they are lightweight to allow your skin to breathe but give you the perfect cover for you to go about your day as normal.
Denim Shorts
My go-to shorts in the summer is a pair of denim shorts, they just work with everything and are easy to wear/wash.
Whether you plan to team them up with a tank top during the day or dress them up with a pair of heels and a blouse in the evenings, they look great and are easy to find too. Most supermarkets and clothing stores stock them, all in a variety of colours and designs.
Espadrilles
Espadrilles are fast becoming my favourite type of shoes, especially during the summer. From comfortable flats to gorgeous wedged heels, they are great from home and away in the warmer months.
I have a pair that I wear for evenings out in the summer but also a pair that are great throughout the day whilst we get out and about exploring. One thing that I am certain of, is if you are after a comfortable pair of shoes, make sure you invest in a pair of espadrilles.
These can also be styled with anything too, from a pretty summer dress down to shorts and top, everything goes with these.
Straw Hat
Keep the sun from your face with a straw hat this summer and keep up with the latest trend too.
Straw hats come in a variety of designs, however, the wide-brimmed hats tend to be more popular and are the ones sported by most celebrities. Not only do they look great though, but they are also perfect for keeping the sun off your face and neck.
You don’t need to completely overhaul your summer wardrobe to keep up with the trend and the 5 suggestions above are ones that will always remain in fashion. I personally prefer to invest in more classic pieces that will stay in fashion over trends that come and go. What is your summer wardrobe essential? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
