We were recently invited to take part in a sunflowers growing competition.
Its something we’ve never done so I couldn’t wait to give it a try with Kayleigh and Ethan
The task was simple.
We received a little package containing pots, garden tools that would be required and sunflower seeds ready for us to get started. Our back garden unfortunately is mainly chalk so we purchased a bag of soil and set to planting up our sunflowers.
Kayleigh and Ethan (with the help of Mummy & Daddy) set to work getting the seeds potted ready for growing and they did a really good job.
Now all we can do is sit and wait & hope!
The winner of the competition will be those who’s sunflower grows the tallest! I’m keeping everything crossed that ours just grow and we’re in luck as 2 have started to sprout already.
Kayleigh and Ethan check on them daily and we had squeals when the first one sprouted, they may not be the tallest but they most certainly will be the most watched.
We’re growing sunflowers too although not in a competition. Unfortunate we planted 2 out before heavy overnight ran and one lots its leaves :s Still got me left though!
Oh no! The weather has been awful I since we planted ours!
We are also having a go this year and once the seedlings have grown a little are going to plant at the allotment. Lots of luck.
Fingers crossed yours do well! Ours will have to live in pots due to the soil we have!
We are growing sunflowers for the first time this year too, they are currently spindly little seedlings. Good luck 🙂

Hello again, sorry for the delayed response, been waiting for the sunflowers to grow! The tallest one is now taller than my 6ft+ partner, although they are a bit ragged round the edges due to being eaten by creatures unknown!

That looks like great fun, we are growing sunflowers too but not for a competition, we eat our small seedlings in a really posh salad with pea shoots, they are really nice. Watch out for slugs with them though, the children were so sad last year when they were munched away in a matter of days.
