We are 3 weeks post-wedding and it has all calmed down a little… ok that’s a lie I’m still in the post-wedding bubble still and love using the word Husband a lot!
However, if you are on the run-up to your wedding you are probably stressing over the last few bits that are coming up, I know what it was like but I can honestly say it will be ok. There are things that I didn’t even really pay attention to on the big day even though I was panicking over them in the build-up to it.
Then there is the whole paying for it on the big day, we were determined that we wouldn’t be paying for it after the wedding (we have enough to pay for as it is without more debt) luckily for us we had some help in getting the wedding day we dreamt off and just before our wedding, I decided to have my first go at online bingo and with my last £2 I won £250! Pure luck I am well aware but very grateful and feel like somebody was looking after us.
Practically though if your wedding budget is getting pushed to its limits there are lots of things you can do to make it all stretch that little bit further.
How to make your budget stretch further
- Firstly decide on your budget and how you want it portioned out between food, venue, outfits etc. This will all be dependant on your budget and your guest list.
- Work out what is the most important things to you when it comes to your big day, this will allow you to work out the budget for certain items. For us, it was the venue, photographer and then dress with everything following behind. This meant we could find a venue that dealt with our needs and gave us a package for our big day then go and find our amazing photographer with the budget flexible to do so.
- Don’t be afraid to shop 2nd hand or hire items – there were things on our big day that to us it wasn’t important that we had brand new so we went shopping online and managed to get some great bargains. eBay and wedding forums are a great place to find items for your day at a fraction of the cost. We managed to get our sweet buffet, centrepieces and other bits all at less than 30% of the RRP as they were 2nd hand. Also, don’t be afraid to hire items such as suits if you don’t need them after the wedding itself.
These are just some of the tips to help you get the wedding you dream of for the budget you have. It is all about being able to compromise on things be it having things 2nd hand or going for a cheaper option on one thing to save the money to put towards something else.
If you are planning your big day, happy planning and enjoy it. It may be the most stressful thing you ever do but will be one of the most magical things you do.
