Ordinary Moments – 01/09/15 – Holidays and family time

Looking out the window at 6.30 in the morning at the damp overcast sky, about to get ready for work and its hard to believe this time last week we was waking up to temperatures in their late 20’s and even early 30’s with nothing planned for our days.

We have just returned from our holiday to the lovely island of Lanzarote where we had the most amazing time. We were able to shut off from the norm of everyday life, relax into the routine of doing nothing and just enjoy time as a family of 4. Breaking all our own rules doing things such as eating ice creams at 10am!

Now we were all ready to come home however not ready to get back into normal everyday life. Whilst we were out there we realised how much everyday things seemed to consume us and how little we actually needed to just be happy.

Yes we need to pay our bills to keep a roof over our head but neither of us really get any job satisfaction in our current roles and don’t want to be stuck there for years to come. It gave us lots of time to reflect and talk about what we really would like to do and where we see ourselves in the next few years.

That then got the ball rolling really in our household, the aims for the next 12 months is to knuckledown to clearing the last of our debts and getting our garden and extension done to enable us to have the space we need then the money we need for it to be a slow process into self employment.

It’s not going to be easy and I’ll be trawling moneysaving blogs and websites for tips and advice but it is something we really want to do. I don’t want to be waking at 5am everyday for work, dreading getting up for it. I want us to both wake up excited for the day ahead just like we was on our holiday.

It’s amazing how just 12 days can change your outlook on life, it has made me realise how important family really is and how much we need to change to get the right balance.

Its amazing how a holiday can make you look at your life and realise what is important. It sounds as if you have great plans for the future and I wish you the very best of luck with them. Martin Lewis website is a must for money saving x

I completely agree- some of my biggest plans have come from being on holiday. There is nothing quite like switching off from reality to make you evaluate and start to plan. It sounds like you had a lovely holiday and good luck with all the planning! x
