Wise Words Wednesday with Katy

I’m really enjoying this new series on the blog as it mean’s I get to introduce you to the bloggers behind the blogs! Today we have Katy who blogs over at Katy Kicker.

She shares great ways to make and save money online as well as sharing insights into her everyday life. You can find Katy over on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram too 🙂

Tell us a little bit about you & your blog:

I am Katy, a mother and wife from Essex. I work from home full time thanks to my blog and online money making efforts. My blog was started back in 2015 to share with people the ways that I make and save money online. Since then my blog has evolved and it is now a place where I share most aspects of my life. I talk about my hobbies, my loves and dislikes and much more.

What inspired you to start blogging?

It was a comment from somebody online. People used to contact me, via MSE, and ask me for advice. Then somebody suggested that I start my own blog, to share my insights, so I did!

What has been your highlight of blogging?

It would have to be being able to make a full-time wage. Now that I have a 1 year old daughter I don’t have to go out to work. I’m so grateful to be able to stay home and spend time with my daughter everyday. Also, my husband only works 3-4 days a week now so we can spend lots of time together.

I’ve received lots of wonderful items, been invited to some magnificent events but best of all I’ve met some other wonderful bloggers online who have become friends.

Is there anything you have learnt about blogging which you wish you knew when you started out?

How to optimise my posts for Google. I have more than 500 posts on my website so I’m editing old ones. There is always something new to learn or implement so I think editing old posts will be the norm for the entirety of my blog really.

Bloggers sometimes get a lot of stick however many work really hard and are reaping the rewards, what has been the most rewarding part of blogging for you?

I know I said this already but being home with my daughter and spending time with my family. I feel really privileged that my hard work has paid off and afforded me this great benefit.

What would be your 1 tip you would give all new bloggers starting out?

Try not to worry about what others are achieving. It can feel like some people are always more ‘successful’, whatever that even means in the blogging world. Personally I try and focus on what I enjoy and nothing more now. Life is too short to always compare yourself to others. I recently wrote a post about how I’m combatting comparison syndrome and it seems to have resonated with lots of people. I think this post proves that we don’t need to worry about others as much as we do – it isn’t great for us mentally anyway.

Who do you find inspiring to read/watch in the blogging world?

I love to see people change their lives for the better. Whether this is becoming less stressed, having more time with their family or making more money. For me I love to see other bloggers succeed. Some bloggers seem to come out of nowhere and become almost overnight successes. Others build up gradually to their own form of success. I love to see how everyone is doing and also I like blogs that are personal. For me the inspirational people are not necessarily rich, or popular, but they are true to who they are.

Lastly – do you have any big plans/dreams for your blog in the next 12 months?

For me I just want to continue along the path I’m on for the next 12 months. Enjoying my family life, going down my allotment, working on my blog when I can fit it in. I love my work/life balance and I want to keep it that way now.
