Do you get active outdoors as a family?

In this day and age there are fewer children getting active and spending time in the outdoors.

We all do it, especially in the colder months. We prefer to stay inside rather than heading outside however are we setting a bad example for our children.

I am the first to admit we are probably not as active as we can be, we are trying to improve it though!

Just around the corner from us there is a little field area that has the smallest play area, it is long overdue an update and could do with some updated play equipment like these however when I contacted our local council they said there was no budget for it.

Getting active as a family outdoors

It is such a shame, with 2 local schools backing on to the field if the were to just give it a bit of a refresh I would imagine it would be very popular with local families. It also makes me a little sad that the council feel children’s outdoor space is not that important.

ESP Play shared a study that showed over 1,000 children had been referred to hospital as a result of obesity and 1 in 3 children between the ages of 2 and 10 being overweight. Those are truly scary figures!

So, what can we do & who is responsible for it?

We are all responsible. It is down to us to teach children about getting active and eating healthy.Getting active as a family outdoors

When you are at home during the day, if you can’t head to a local park why not get out in the garden and play. Outdoor play equipment is a great way to burn lots of energy whilst making it fun at the same time.

It doesn’t have to cost a fortune getting active either, things such as football or skipping are a great way to get fit. If you have been lucky enough to have snow like we have this weekend why not get out and have a snowball fight or build a snowman.

Being outdoors and taking in fresh air is also good for your health in so many other ways, just a walk with our dogs in the fresh air makes such a difference to our mental health too.

So why not make your 2018 resolution a promise to get the whole family a lot more active and enjoy time outdoors together?
