Good morning & welcome to our latest blogging interview. This morning we have Julie from Mummyitsok taking time out to share her blogging journey with us.
Julie’s blog is a really honest account of her journey with Postpartum Depression and self-care since as well as her family life. I love her honesty with it all, if we could all be a little bit more honest like this, less people would feel like they are on their own with things like this.
For now though I am going to hand you over to Julie:
Tell us a little bit about you & your blog:
Hi I’m Julie from Mummyitsok. I am married and together we have a 4-year-old boy. I live in the United Kingdom.
I also have a full-time job where I work outside of the home Monday-Friday 8.30am-4.30pm and this blog on the side – I must be mad, like I’m not busy enough right?
There’s also an important point about me I’d like you all to know. I was diagnosed with Postpartum Depression when my little man was 18 months old.
What inspired you to start blogging?
I first started blogging in October 2015. My main reason for starting a blog was that I was suffering with postpartum depression. I had been finding it difficult to find real life stories and experiences from mums who had been there.
So, I decided to start my own blog to let all mums with postpartum depression know that Mummy It’s OK – You’re Doing Great!
What has been your highlight of blogging?
The highlight for me is when other mums thank me for sharing My Postpartum Depression Journey and they let me know how it has helped them to know there are others out there just like them.
Is there anything you have learnt about blogging which you wish you knew when you started out?
Urgh so much! If I had to pick one thing that I wish I knew I would have to pick the importance of writing in your own style and mum voice. It’s important to stay true to yourself otherwise it gets difficult to write and enjoy it.
Bloggers sometimes get a lot of stick however many work really hard and are reaping the rewards, what has been the most rewarding part of blogging for you?
The most rewarding part for me is knowing that I am helping other mums. It far out weighs all the other stuff such as blog views, affiliate income, number of followers etc. Just knowing you are helping mums in need is amazing.
What would be your 1 tip you would give all new bloggers starting out?
My 1 tip would be – if you are looking to expand the number of people who read your blog then get yourself on Pinterest. It’s great for reaching a wide audience and so rewarding if set up properly!) Get yourself added to group boards to maximise your reach too!
Who do you find inspiring to read/watch in the blogging world?
I am so in love with the following bloggers – they are a total inspiration as they too have been through postpartum depression and are now achieving amazing things with their blogs!
Lastly – do you have any big plans/dreams for your blog in the next 12 months?
My biggest goal for me personally this year is to complete my recovery by coming of the meds – I’m half way there! Regarding blogging – I’d really like to start a Linky to help mums get there blog out there more and also working with some brands would be nice.
