I’m not going to lie; I love the summer holidays with no school. For me, I just look forward to not having to wash and iron the school uniform. Plus, there is the added benefit of not having to get out of the house on time!
But we all know the holidays can’t last and we are back to school soon, so now its time to get organised ready for the rush.
If like me you are lacking time with school rush, work and various other things going on, here are my top tips for surviving the back to school rush and washing that comes with it!
- Begin your preparation early – There is nothing like a last-minute rush to get the bits you need. For example, with 2 ½ weeks left till we go back to school, I’ve not brought any clothing items and the shop we normally get them from has sold out in the sizes we need. Being prepared is not something to be sniffed at, it is a great move which I need to do better next year!
- Get ahead of yourself – Packing bags the night before and placing them with school shoes is one example. In the morning it is a rush to get out of the house with everything we need, getting a few bits organised ready to go saves time and tempers.
- Iron wisely – Ironing is the one chore I hate. I leave it as I can’t be bothered to face it and by the time, I do get around to it I always end up having a mountain to work through which makes it even worse! On a Sunday I make sure the kid’s school uniforms are ironed, then again on Tuesday and a Thursday. This way I keep the ironing pile under control but also keep the kids in clean clothes! If you struggle with washing/ironing as your chore in the house, Laundryheap is an on-demand service where they can come collect your washing/ironing and take it off to sort it all out for you, returning it to your home or office within 24 hours. Currently, they only work in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leicester & Coventry but they are looking to expand. I know there has been plenty of times where we have had things going on lately that I could have done with this. They are offering our readers £7 off their first order, just enter the code BLG7MW at the checkout.
- Update your calendar – Last year I got caught out by so many events goings-on at school that I ended up paying a premium for postage on items for fancy dress days. These dates were given to me at the beginning of the year to plan but I never got around to it and forgot! This year they will be on the calendar for all to see in advance!
With a couple of weeks left of the holidays, there is still time to get organised. However, it is fast running out and the routine we have got sorted into will disappear and a new one will come along.
One thing is for certain though, there are thousands of other people in the same boat as you! Back to school rush has begun…
