Our weekly meal plan – 06/12/21

Good morning and welcome back to this weeks meal plan.

I am starting to wonder why I write these as over the last few weeks we have been completely off plan for most of these weeks. Then I reminded myself that actually, we need to get back on plan, next year there is so much I want to achieve but I can only do this with us saving money and our food bill is the perfect place to start with this.

Our cupboards and freezers are full of bits to use up, they might not be a complete meal of any type of cuisine and it looks like we may have to top a few items but I am hoping by the time Christmas gets to us we will have some space and head into the new year in a better place.

If like me you are struggling with the family food budget, my tip to you is to start at the beginning. Work out what you have in your house and what meals you can make from there. It may be that you have enough in the house for 90% of the meal and just need to do a small top-up shop for the rest. This will save you a little bit of money on that week’s shop. I keep repeating this until we have a more normal level of food to use up, saving on waste and money!

Anyway, it’s time to get back to this weeks meal plan.

Our weekly meal plan – 06/12/21

Monday –

Pukka pie and chips – Super simple as we have a late night at work tonight. These just need to be shoved in the oven whilst I catch up on everything else going on.

Tuesday –

Spaghetti bolognese – Already cooked and in the freezer, just need to cook up the spaghetti and serve.

Wednesday –

Cod in parsley sauce, rice and peas – It never made it to the plate last week so we are going to try and have it this week.

Thursday –

Beef stew – Slow-cooked whilst we are at work and ready to eat when we get home. I can’t wait for this one.

Friday –

Freezer food – Time to use up the odd fish fingers and burgers that we have lying around! Everyone can pick what they want and I will make the most of it being used up.

Saturday –

Spanish chicken and rice – I brought this jar a few weeks back but still never used it, time to try it out.

Sunday –

Toad in the hole – It has been a while, as everyone eats Yorkshire puddings and sausages, this dish should be a winner.,

There is nothing special on the menu this week, it is planned to make life a little easier and with minimal fuss. I just plan to use up what we have and run down the cupboards and freezer to make life as easy as possible. Over the Christmas break, I am going to do some research into meal ideas and try out a few dishes to see how they go. For me, it is all about striking the balance between cooking fresh meals and finding the time to not be stressing about how long dinner is going to take after 10 hours at work! I’d love to hear your family favourite dishes below.
