5 Pretty Bedroom Ideas for a Quick Summer Update

#Collaborative post

When tasked with making your bedroom prettier, your mind will probably picture lots of floral patterns, pinks, and whimsical elements like fairy lights draped from your ceiling – all these are fantastic ideas. But they aren’t the end-all!

You can go further with statement light fixtures, an ornate bed frame, and painting furniture to give your bedroom a dramatic new look for cheap.

Discover our five best ideas for a pretty bedroom update below.

  1. White bed frames

A white bed frame can instantly lighten your bedroom. Even better, you can choose an ornate or minimalist frame to complement your bedroom décor —low and sleek or tall and grand. It’s your call.

Popular options include Victorian-esque metal bed frames like the Birlea Jessica and Birlea Atlas, which have gorgeous finials and a classical vibe.

Built-in storage is easy, too, with beds like the Bedmr Chester (wooden with drawers) and the Milan End Lift Leather Ottoman.

  • Elegant lighting

Fairy lights wrapped around your bed frame and trailing up the wall above your bed are fantastic for elegance. Use wall hooks to hang the lights and get lights with a remote control to make changing the settings a piece of cake.

Your ceiling light can be easily upgraded with a pendant chandelier, or you can go for something flush or semi-flush, like a waterfall crystal chandelier. Add dimmer switches, and you have an easy way to change the ambience.

A few more ideas – lava lamps, sticky LED strips under furniture, and wall-mounted bedside lights to free up space on your tables.

  • Floral and botanical upholsteries

Floral curtains and bedding are easy upgrades to make your bedroom prettier this summer. The best part is that you can choose floral bedding with a base colour that matches your tastes—be that white, eggshell blue, or green.

Lightweight curtains are best for summer, and if you get a blackout version, they do a fantastic job of blocking the sun’s light and heat.

Your bedding should be 100% cotton for softness after washing (polycotton is the next best thing, but avoid polyester, which feels scratchy).

  • Add paint in unique ways

Our favourite way to make a bedroom prettier and more homegrown in summer is to paint the faces of furniture – the drawers and doors – a solid dark grey or black and then add hundreds of colourful dots to the surface with acrylic paint.

The acrylic paint will give you a rainbow of colours, and each piece you paint is unique (it also makes it a brilliant activity for children).

If you don’t want to paint furniture, paint a small wall with white chalkboard paint, and draw colourful pictures to suit your mood.

  • Create a feature wall

The wall behind your bed is the best place for a feature wall to tie everything together. Summer colours include pastel yellows, blues, and greens, or you can go for white and add colour in other ways, like artwork.

Dark feature walls are a no-no in summer because they can make your bedroom dreary, but if you must, a dark blue always stays in style.

Your feature wall is also ripe for fairy lights hanging on hooks and patterned wallpaper (or a mural) to create a pretty scene.

Wooden cladding is also popular for feature walls, making minimalist spaces more interesting. Clad panels with a fabric backing make hanging easy, but individual strips allow for more customisation.
