Dear Kayleigh and Ethan…. Money doesn’t grow on trees…

Dear Kayleigh and Ethan,

By the time your able to read this I think you’d have some concept of money and how it works.

You see to get the things in life you want that cost money, you have to earn it. Be it through chores, hard work at school or through a job. It’s something we all have to do in life but it is so rewarding for you when you earn your first few pounds.

I think it’s fair to say your both lucky, mummy and daddy have promised to make sure you don’t go without and you don’t. Your not spoilt but you’re very lucky not to go without. Daddy and I work very hard to keep a roof over our heads and get us the things we need. It’s not always been easy, I’ve worked since I was 14 and Daddy went straight into his job from school but its paying off. We have our own home and our own little family unit and together we are strong.

Money doesn’t grow on trees however and financially it is tough at times for everyone. After our accident we had to buy a new car and pay more insurance out, this has drastically cut our spare cash but we get by and you two are very lucky that through the blog you get lots of great things.

Daddy and I have set you both a little nest egg up for when you turn 18, we’re not able to put much in but every month a little goes away to give you something to get you started in life but I wanted to give you a few tips on what not to do!

  • When you get your little nest egg at 18, don’t blow it. You can go and treat yourself but try and use it for something useful, get a little car and pay a years insurance or put it towards your uni fees or even towards a deposit. It’s not going to be everyday you get a lump sum so just take time out to think before you spend it.
  • Don’t get credit! I know how tempting it is to have the latest gadgets and lets face it you won’t notice £35 a month for 3 years going out…. That’s until you have 4 or 5 of them going out and get annoyed that you have no spare cash!
  • Treat yourself occasionally -I know this is a weird one for a post for thinking about money but I’m a firm believer if you’ve worked hard and earned your money, you deserve a treat! If you don’t treat yourself every now and then you’ll end up having a complete blow out a splash more cash than you want to.

Just remember whatever you want, it’s going to take hard work but don’t despair, you will get there. Daddy and I will be with you every step of the way, just be wise and the rest will follow.

    Lots of love
    Mummy
    Xxx
