I think we can all agree that 2020 didn’t exactly go according to plan. It felt like in a mere week or two, our entire way of life was uprooted and put on pause. Shops were shut, lots of us were told to work from home, and many were cut off from loved ones.
One of the things that affected me most was the cancellation of my holiday. I’d been looking forward to a trip abroad – I was going to Portugal with some friends to relax and see a few sights – but with the pandemic, it all got postponed. It would be great to go this year, but I think I’ve decided to wait and see what happens in 2022.
Having decided to postpone the trip for so long, it’s got me thinking about what I might be able to do in the meantime, and where I might be able to go. Going anywhere abroad seems silly to plan, as it looks unlikely it’ll be reliable before the summer, so that’s got me thinking about a staycation in this country.
While I haven’t travelled too much in the UK, I have always wanted to. Scotland, Wales and England (not forgetting Northern Ireland, but that’s more difficult to get to at the moment!) all have amazing places to visit, and I would like to see more of what they all have to offer. That’s why I’ve been thinking about buying a two-berth motorhome.
The thing that’s drawing me to a motorhome is the fact that it seems a safe way to travel when restrictions allow. You have your own space that is entirely yours, and you can keep socially distanced even when away from home. In that regard, it’s maybe even safer than a hotel or b&b.
With this idea in mind, I’ve been researching different motorhome makes and have come across Bailey of Bristol. They’re one of the UK’s leading caravan and motorhome manufacturers and make a variety of 2 berth, 4 berth and 6 berth motorhomes.
Bailey of Bristol two berth motorhomes
The reason why I like the look of the two berth motorhomes is the freedom they’ll give me to travel around. As it’s smaller than the other sizes, a two berth will allow me to explore more of those off the beaten track places that other tourists might not get to. I really love driving down country lanes, so something like the Bailey Autograph 69-2 will be perfect for this.
While I do like my freedom, I do also love spending time with my friends and family and a two-berth motorhome would even work for this (once restrictions ease up, that is). While the Autograph 69-2 only has sleeping space for two people (that’s what ‘berth’ means ) and travel seating for two (this is the amount of seats with seat belts it has), it does have a u-shaped lounge area that can comfortably seat four people. So my friends could bring their own car and pitch up next to us with a tent while we have an evening cooking and playing games. I might not need to go to Portugal next year after all!
As I’ve been looking at the Bailey motorhomes, I’ve become more and more impressed by the features they manage to cram into such a small space. Here are some of the best things I’ve found:
Alu-Tech construction
So this one is more of a point that makes you think ‘wow that’s good value for money’. All Bailey caravans and motorhomes are made with Alu Tech construction. This is a way of making the body shell that’s unique to Bailey. It sees the aluminium body shell panels clamped together, and means they’re much more durable than traditional bodyshells and can better handle all kinds of weathers. With the touring I’d like to do, this is ideal!
Driving tech
The newest Bailey motorhomes have the kind of technology that you would expect to find in higher-end car brands. All the models in the Autograph range have sat-nav and a reversing camera built-in, and both will be a huge help when I’m off exploring. I can use the sat nav to work out where I am, and where I want to go next, and the reversing camera will make me feel much more comfortable making manoeuvres.
Kitchen with all the essentials
One of my favourite things about going on holiday is good food. Yet for the next year at least it looks like there’s no guarantee, even if holidays are allowed, that eating out will be possible. The Autograph 69-2 has an onboard kitchen with a hob, oven, sink, fridge freezer and plenty of work surfaces, so I can make feasts to make up for it.
Bathroom
One of the best things about a holiday is the chance to relax and pamper yourself. I always used to love going to hotels and finding the room had a jacuzzi bath or a massive power shower. While the Autograph 69-2 doesn’t quite have either of those things, it does have a stylish bathroom that more than matches the quality of a hotel room. Complete with shower, sink and all the cupboard space I need, I’ll be more than able to relax.
So as I’ve been writing this list, it’s convinced that buying a Bailey motorhome is the way to go. Having looked at it, even more, I have decided the Autograph 69-2 is the one for me. But how can I be so sure without having seen it in person? Well, I kind of have…
The Bailey of Bristol website has a brilliant Virtual Showroom that allows you to have a virtual tour of all their motorhomes. From the comfort of my own home, I have been able to walk virtually around the motorhome I’m thinking of buying. So when retailers open again, I know exactly what I want and can just go out and place an order.
It’s not just motorhomes that have the Virtual Showroom either, all of the Bailey caravans are also available for you to virtually walk around.
As you can see, I’m pretty excited about my future holiday plans and the freedom the two berth Bailey Autograph will give me. So all I’ve got to do now is wait until I can get to a retailer and buy my new motorhome! For now, I’m keeping an eye on the Bailey news and events page for regular blog posts on socially distanced family fun plus inspirational travel stories to help us plan for when restrictions are lifted.
Have you considered a two berth motorhome?
