Gifts People Rarely Buy For Themselves

#Collaborative post

Buying gifts usually comes easy to some people, others may struggle to figure out the best thing to get. Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions can be filled with dread and worry about getting something wrong. If you are getting worked up at not knowing what to get, then how about thinking about the things that they wouldn’t usually buy for themselves? This is a great way to spin presents and know for sure what to get them. If you need some inspiration then take a look at the article below.

Flowers

The first thing on the list is flowers or plants. This is the kind of gift that is more often than not bought for someone, rather than the person buying it themselves. Very few people see flowers and think ‘oh, I must buy some of those.’ This is why it is a great route to go down when you want to surprise someone. The key here is knowing what their favourite flower is and getting a bunch of them or incorporating them into a beautiful bouquet. Alternatively, if you don’t want to get them flowers. Some people are against them due to their short shelf life, you could get them a house plant instead. These stay alive as long as they are looked after, fed, and watered.

Perfume

Is the recipient always wearing some sort of perfume, do they like to smell nice? If so, then you could get them some perfume for this special occasion. Perfume can be very expensive, depending on the designer. People very rarely buy it themselves for this very reason, their money is better spent elsewhere. If you want to make someone very happy then buying them their favourite brand of perfume will get you far. You will need to know what their favourite one is, however, if you have known them for a while you should already know this. Around Christmas time, it is common for perfumes to come in sets. These work out cheaper than buying individual items. They usually come with body lotion or body spray.

Technology

Does the recipient love technology? Are they always talking about the latest new pieces of tech that are being released? If so, then surprise them with something they haven’t stopped talking about. This could be the latest Playstation or Xbox console, be aware the PS5 has been notoriously hard to get hold of since its release in 2020. Is the person always complaining about working in a noisy office? If so, then how about getting them a pair of good-quality noise-cancelling headphones? These not only block out all surrounding noises but are wonderful for when they want to listen to their own personal music.

Video Games

If they are a fan of video consoles then they will need some games to go with them. These can be pricey, so a lot of people wait until Christmas or birthdays to ask for them. Occasionally, there are shops that have offers on video games. It is always worth getting them when they are in deals or sales as this will save you money. Find out which ones are on their list and search for the ones you can get hold of. Some video games are tricky to get hold of and sell out really fast. Fifa is a great example of this, Fifa 23 was released at the end of September and it has already sold out in most places.

Jewellery

If you are looking for unique gift ideas for that special someone then you might like to think of getting them some jewellery. Jewellery can work out to be expensive, especially if people are buying matching sets. This usually includes a necklace and earrings or earrings and a bracelet. You have to know someone pretty well in order to get them jewellery as a gift, you never know if someone has their ears pierced or not. If you want to show someone how much they mean to you, you could get them a gold Claddagh ring. This symbolises love, friendship, and loyalty.

Gift Cards

If you are not sure what to buy someone, but you still want to get them something that they won’t get themselves. Then why not get them a gift card for their favourite store? A gift card is a great alternative to getting them something physical such as an outfit or a pair of shoes. If you are worried about getting the wrong size or style then they can buy their own items with a gift card. All you have to do is load the gift card with however much you want and give it to them in a card.

Homewares

Something that people very rarely buy for themselves is homewares. There is probably a reason for this, maybe it feels too adult! If you know they are missing a few items from their kitchen or have been complaining about not being able to make certain dishes then now is your chance to please them forever. Every time they use the dish or pot they will be reminded of who bought it for them. If they enjoy spending time in the kitchen then this gift could be given alongside a cookery or baking recipe book.

Cosmetics

Finally, this is one of those gift ideas that you have to tread lightly with. Only buy makeup for someone if you are 100% sure they wear it, otherwise you could end up offending them. If you know they wear it and want to surprise them, make-up is the way to do this. Certain makeup brands can cost hundreds of pounds and people are very reluctant to pay this price. However, if they are worth it then you could get them their favourite brand of makeup as a treat. Don’t be afraid to ask what brand or colours they are interested in before going out and shopping.
