Players face each other with their deck of cards, for some, these are just pre-brought starter decks and for others, they are custom-built decks, whether that be lucky in their purchases or trading cards to change how their decks are.

These cards are then placed in an order where your cards compete against each other, casting spells against the opposition. It is all about the strategy in this game and it is a very competitive game when you get into it.

Now, obviously, there is a little more to this game than just that but it was just to give you a little overview of the game.

Best ways to get started playing Magic the Gathering

If you want to get started but are a little unsure about playing, why not look for a group to play with? There are many groups up and down the country that have open games nights to play and it is a great way to not only learn the game but socialise with like-minded people.

Throughout the year there are usually also conventions where people will be playing and it will give you the chance to buy and trade cards as you learn to grow your own deck.

Is it expensive to get started with Magic The Gathering?

For a game, it is not too expensive to begin with, you are able to pick up a starter deck of cards for about £25-£30. However, like all hobbies, it can be as expensive or as cheap as you like.

You are able to buy more cards as you choose to and then there are options for things such as hardback rule books and booster packs etc.

If it is something you just want to try and see if you like it, the prices are pretty reasonable. In fact, it is actually cheaper than buying a computer game!

Trading card games, on the whole, seem to stand the test of time. With many still played around the world today, it can be an investment that over time. There are lots of players who invest a lot of time into their decks too, with the aim over time to sell some of their more valuable cards.

Whatever your approach to the game is, this is a game for the whole family to get involved in and who knows where it may lead, after all, it is magic!
