Wise Words Wednesday with Clare – My Money Cottage

Today we are welcoming Clare from My Money Cottage to the blog to take part in our Wise Words Wednesday feature.

Clare’s blog is packed full of finance tips and tricks to help your money go further so make sure you pop over and take a look.

For now, I will hand this post over to her so she can share her blogging journey with you.

Tell us a little bit about you & your blog

I’m Clare, wife and Mum to three children aged 10, 8 and 2. I blog over at http://mymoneycottage.com.

I work from home in my “real job” in website quality control and blog in my spare time (usually when the kids are asleep and I’ve done everything else).

What inspired you to start blogging?

I first started blogging when both my husband and myself were made redundant within a month of each other. I was pregnant with our second child and money was inevitably very tight! I blogged as a way to vent my frustrations and my fears about how we’d cope. This blog quickly fell to the side as I focussed on ways to boost our income. I started blogging again in November last year, mainly writing about the ways we boost our finances and the tips & tricks I’ve picked up along the way. I’ve put a lot of time and thought into my blog and I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved.

What has been your highlight of blogging?

I think it has to be my first paid job. Whilst I love blogging just for me, it’s great to know that people like my style and want to work with me. It’s given me the confidence to put myself out there a little and getting positive feedback from the brand really helped!

Is there anything you have learnt about blogging which you wish you knew when you

How to use Twitter (you can find me at https://twitter.com/mymoneycottage). This may seem really daft but I didn’t have a clue! Twitter is probably my most valuable tool at the moment, I’m working on Instagram and Pinterest but they’re still quite alien to me! Social media is so important and I’m now in the habit of posting several times a day, I still want to improve my interaction with my readers though.

Bloggers sometimes get a lot of stick however many work really hard and are reaping the rewards, what has been the most rewarding part of blogging for you?

I’m finally starting to see the rewards for the hard work I’ve put in. I’m not where I want to be by any means yet but my figures are constantly improving and I finally feel as though maybe I could actually do this!

What would be your 1 tip you would give all new bloggers starting out?

Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. Focus on your own content, find your own voice and believe in yourself.

Who do you find inspiring to read/watch in the blogging world?

There are lots of bloggers I really admire. I’d probably say Emma Drew, I love her style and she really knows what she’s talking about.

Lastly – do you have any big plans/dreams for your blog in the next 12 months?

In 12 months time, I’d love to be blogging more and working less. I’m not sure how realistic this is but blogging really is my passion, if I could make a decent living from it then I’d be one happy bunny!

Thank you Clare for taking time to answer our questions. If you would like to read more from the bloggers featured in our Wise Words Wednesday make sure you head over here to take a look at their posts.
