Building work update – Part 1

It is over a week since our building work started and since our first post, so much has happened since then. Daddy Vs Work and his dad worked wonders last week in making so much happen in such a short space of time.

The first big change is we now have 3 bedrooms instead of two (we are just going to ignore the fact they can’t all be used, I’ll come back to that soon!). All the internal walls are up and the doors have all been fitted. Another big change is the skylight is now installed in Ethan’s room, it is not very big but it lets in so much light! Our skirting has arrived from Skirting World and it looks amazing, it has been cut we just need to fix this to the walls. We have kindly been gifted the skirting so there will be a full review on this next week with some pictures of it installed.

As I mentioned above we are not using all the bedrooms at the minute, this is not because they can’t be used. It is due to the size of the children’s rooms, as they are small it is really hard to work around furniture in there so we are focusing on one room with no furniture in there and then will switch over to the other room.

I have to admit it is hard going, there is still a long way to go and our house is not very big. Currently, our living room is our storage, office, building supplies storage, living room and dining room in one. It’s not even a big room, so it does feel like we are living on top of each other at the minute.  It will all be worth it though when we get through all the work.

Here is the to-do list for the next couple of weeks:

  • Fill in all the holes from the new walls and skirting
  • Finish putting up the ceilings in two bedrooms
  •  Paint all the woodwork
  • Lining paper on all walls
  • Wallpaper/paint the kid’s rooms

There is still so much more to do on top of this including getting carpet and their new beds, however, the budget is running very short now so we will have to do the next bits in stages. It may take us a while to get there however I am very pleased with how it is coming along!
