Welcome back to our next installment of Wise Words Wednesday. Today we have the lovely Ruth from Craft With Cartwright joining us in the hot seat.
Ruth’s blog has a great mix of tutorials, reviews and recipes, so make sure you head over once you’ve finished reading this!
Tell us a little bit about you & your blog:
I’m Ruth a 37 year old work from home mum. I have two lovely boys who keep me very busy. I was formerly a secondary school Textiles and Catering teacher, now I blog for fun and work as a freelance designer. My blog www.craftwithcartwright.co.uk is a great big mash up of all these things. Design work, crafts, cookery, parenting and lifestyle.
What inspired you to start blogging?
I started blogging when I was on maternity leave with my first. It was a way of me sharing my crafts and keeping my self sane. It was rubbish in the beginning, it’s evolved and improved (I hope) along the way
What has been your highlight of blogging?
Being signed up to an illustration agency, my blog gallery of my work helped me secure the contract.
Is there anything you have learnt about blogging which you wish you knew when you started out
- You don’t have to blog everyday
- Write your way, don’t try a be a magazine
- Get your own domain, if you want to take it seriously
- Use social media to connect with other bloggers out there

www.instagram.com/craftcartwright
Bloggers sometimes get a lot of stick however many work really hard and are reaping the rewards, what has been the most rewarding part of blogging for you?
It’s nice to get asked to review things and get sent stuff for free, but that’s not why I do it. I enjoy connecting with people and sharing my stories. I love it when people comment on my blog that they’ve made something I’ve designed or they will try out an idea I’ve posted.
What would be your 1 tip you would give all new bloggers starting out?
Use Canva to make your blog pictures look more professional. You can use the basic package for free.
Who do you find inspiring to read/watch in the blogging world?
Lylia Rose is a great lifestyle blogger.
Lastly – do you have any big plans/dreams for your blog in the next 12 months?
Migrate to my own website rather than using blogger as the template. Work with other bloggers, I really enjoy guest posting and helping out. Collaborating is much better than competing.
A huge thank you to Ruth for taking part in Wise Words Wednesday! If you are a blogger and would like to take part feel free to drop me a message or leave a comment below 🙂
