The kitchen for lots of people is probably one of the most used rooms in the home, it is used for not only cooking but many of us it is the utility room, the place to catch up whilst making a cuppa and generally a place where you end up chatting whilst making your dinner.
However, for many of us, our kitchens may be a little bit dated and worn around the edges.
Our kitchen is still the same kitchen as when we moved in 10 years ago, yes we have given it a lick of paint and some new tiles. We even had some replacement kitchen doors fitted about 8 years ago to freshen it up however it is still the same units, worktop and layout as when we moved in.
Over the years we have had some plans to replace the kitchen, extend the kitchen and so on however nothing has really come of those plans due to one thing or another (mainly money!).
Recently though we started to think about the long-term plans for our home, what did we want from it and how would we get it over the years we plan on living here. One of the big changes we have decided on is our kitchen.
We currently live in a bungalow where our kitchen is joined to our living room/dining room. They are both good sizes however when I am cooking in the kitchen it is really isolating to everyone else who may be relaxing in the living room.
Our plans are to move our washing machine and tumble dryer into a new porch/utility room area which will close off from the kitchen and keep the noise down. Then we would love to take down the wall between our kitchen and living room, opening the space up to everyone.
I’m imagining an island style workspace with seating the other side for people to sit, making it a real focal point for our home.
As we would not have many wall units we would be looking to make sure we have clever workspace storage on the lower level but ensuring the space is utilised the best it can be. I will be looking at Kitchen Warehouse not only for their designs but also their inspiration on the best way to make the most of this space.
I know this is some way off yet, however, I am really excited to see how it pans out over the coming years. I have got a Pinterest board dedicated to my ideas and plans for our new heart of the home.
