Easy and quick ways to declutter your home with Lifewit

#Collaborative post

With spring around the corner, now is a great time to start getting your home organised and we have some easy ways to declutter your home.

It can be easy to become overwhelmed with the number of things that need sorting in your home, so targeting small areas is the perfect way to crack through it all and not be overwhelmed at the same time. I tend to tackle one room at a time, this means that I know when I have finished in the room I know I can move on to the next one in the knowledge that the room should be good for a while.

I don’t know about anyone else but I find that our bedrooms are the places that gather the most amount of clutter. Over time, clothes we have grown out of, Christmas gifts and other odds and sods all start the pile-up in little areas. With the most storage in the house, it is easy to not even realise this is happening either!

So, if you are looking for ways to declutter your home, here are our top tips to get you started.

Be ruthless

If you haven’t used it or worn it in a few months, the likelihood is that you won’t use it going forward. Hanging on to things that you are never going to use is why clutter soon starts to build up.

I always sort my items into a few piles:

  • Keep pile – Ones that I want to find a space for in our home again. If you are keeping things such as clothes for another season, these Lifewit storage bags are the perfect thing to store them in under the bed. It keeps them all together and is easy to switch out as the season changes.
  • Donate pile – For those items that I might not use but I know can be used by others, I put them to one side and donate to a local charity shop or charity bag.
  • Sell pile – Some items you may come across could be worth a few pounds and if like us you are trying to make as much money as possible this is a great way to add to the pennies.
  • Bin pile – let’s face it, some of the items in your pile are just no good for anyone. We all have that favourite jumper or top that we have worn to death but they need to go, hanging on to something like this is no good for you or your room you are trying to declutter.

You really do need to be ruthless though, don’t hang on to something just for the sake of it.

Get your space organised

So, you’ve gone through all your items and decided which are staying and which items need to go. Now what?

Well after you declutter your home, it is time to put things back in a way that you can find everything but also a practical way that if you need to find things you can do easily. When we renovated the bedrooms we invested in lots of these Lifewit collapsible storage cubes to use in all of the bedrooms. In our room, they are used in the cupboards above our bed for underwear and on our shelving for things such as nail kits and polish and Daddy Vs Work’s razors. The kids have them in their storage too for toys and school bits and pieces.

They are a great way to keep the area tidy and if you need to grab anything out of the cupboard you can take the whole cube out.
