Thinking ahead to the future and our forever home

#Collaborative post

We have lived in our current home since 2007, it was the first home we brought but we both know that it won’t be our forever home.

I don’t think when we brought our home back then, we realised quite how life would change. Being 22 and 25, you don’t really understand just how much life is going to change, not online in your career, family and everyday life but also how much you want to change your lifestyle. For us, this home was ideal, great location in town, easy to get to work and shops and schools close by. Now though as we have got a little older, we are just looking for a quieter life and a bit more space. I want to be able to get up in the morning and take the dogs for a walk in a more countryside location and listen to birds rather than cars and planes!

Although now is not the right time for us to move financially with everything going on, it is giving us a bit of time to start thinking about what we will want from our forever home because once we move, I don’t really have plans to move again after that!

Space –

One of the first things on my wish list is space, I would just like a little more space in every room. I want to give us all a little more space to ourselves, where we can do what we want to do without feeling like we are on top of each other.

Our current home is small, although we have our own space, it is not exactly spacious.

For example, we don’t have a lot of space in our bedroom and I would love it if our new home could potentially have an ensuite and if possible an inbuilt wardrobe like the ones on this page, it would just make it so much easier to be able to find our clothes and have space to hide presents! In reality I know we may not be able to get both but I can add it to the wishlist.

Driveway –

Our home as it is does not have a drive and for the first 7-8 years we lived here it was not really a problem, then over time, it has got worse. Sometimes it is not even possible to get parked within 20 houses of our home due to the parking which overall is no major problem but when you have come home from the food shop, you want to be able to get near your house to unload the car or after a night out you want to be able to come home, park near your house and get the kids into bed!

This is the one thing that will be essential in our new home.

Utility room –

This is up there on the dream list, a utility room.

Currently, we have our washing machine in the kitchen and the tumble dryer in a cupboard in the hall with the ironing board shoved down the side of the fridge.

I would love there to be a space where it could all come together and I could potentially Mrs Hinch the hell out of it, with my cleaning products organised, the room itself tidy and a place to keep all the washing both clean and dirty whilst I get it organised and back out to the right person.

These are just a few of the things on my wish list but I just have so many other plans and ideas. The reality is though, when we come to buy a house, there will need to be a bit of compromise on what is eventually going to be our forever home. As for what I want, in the area that I would like it will just not be in the budget but when we are ready, we will face those difficult decisions. What would be on your dream home list? Is it a drive away or some beautiful built in cupboards like on this page?
