A child’s passion can be found in a number of ways that will help them learn to find what they really want to pick up in terms of skills and knowledge. This could be something they pick up in extracurricular activities and clubs in school, or they could be something they explore outside of school. But you should therefore find something that will help your child learn to love an activity or pastime that helps them feel happy and whole.
So with that in mind, here are some top tips you can use to help your child find their passion.
Allow your child to explore lots of different activities
There are a lot of different activities and hobbies out there for everyone to explore regardless of age. It helps your child pick up a lot of skills, but it also means that your child has the opportunity to try and test out lots of different hobbies with others around them. If your child doesn’t like something, try not to push them to keep pursuing it until you know that they’re certain.
Reassure your child when they find something they don’t like
It’s not the end of the world if your child finds something to try and it isn’t exactly what they had in mind. It’s all a part of exploring different activities and hobbies – and there’s no right or wrong answer to finding the right passions for your child. Be calm, but happy that they have tried something new for the first time. That in itself could be the important first step your child needs towards getting out of their comfort zone.
See if strands of other activities are out there for your child to try
For example, if your child wasn’t too keen on football, why don’t they try rugby instead? If tennis wasn’t their bag then try squash or badminton. Sometimes similar activities can help your child work out if something is worth their time – they may enjoy playing ball games but are unsure which ones to try out. This is why exploring lots of different activities is really important for a child who is discovering their passion.
If they have found their passion, find ways for them to further enjoy it
There may be a club nearby for your child to join every week, or an after school club that helps your child pick up relevant skills in school. Whatever works for your child you should try to pursue it so that they can enjoy themselves and unlock that passion that they’ve been searching for.
