The Benefits of After School Clubs for Children

#Collaborative post

If you’re a working mum or dad, after school clubs are a godsend. They eliminate the hassle of needing to arrange childcare or pick up at the end of the day. They take place on school grounds and are managed by qualified professionals so you can rest-assured knowing that they are in safe hands. While timing varies for schools, it creates an hour or so for you to make your way to the school gates. If you’re considering an after-school club for your child, here’s a list of benefits that we thought we’d bring to your attention. This post is in collaboration with an after school club in Kensington.

Fun Activities

After school clubs are an extension to the school day. While the longer hours might be a concern for parents, there are lots of fun activities that your little one will be able to engage in. They will be able to spend it amongst their peers, meet others their age and have the opportunity to make friends. This encourages children to socialise, build their interpersonal skills and can help with regards to their confidence.

Help with Homework

Also, as they will be under the supervision of their teachers, they may be able to help them with their homework should they choose to spend their time that way.

Safety

Safety is a big concern for parents when looking for a childminder or making any such arrangements. You will be happy to know that after school clubs are OFSTED registered (if they offer childcare for more than 2 hours and to under 8’s) so your child will be in capable hands.

Creates Structure

This additional layer creates structure. Children need structure and routine as it creates stability. Having a set routine and idea of how they will spend their evenings whilst you’re still at work etc will give your child a sense of security and comfort.

Learning Opportunities

There may also be educational activities for them to take part in. While many allow children to spend the time as they like, depending on the kind of after school club your child may be able to work towards a particular skill or something educational in that time. This can help them academically and expand their skill set.

Fees

You may even be able to get a discount for additional siblings. This can make it a more affordable means of childcare.

Whilst these are all great benefits, speak to your child and get them involved. Before making the decision, make sure that they are happy with the arrangement so that they can get as much out of the opportunity as possible.
