Keeping healthy at home during lockdown

#Collaborative post

As lockdown 2.0 has kicked in, lots of us have made promises to be a bit kinder to ourselves. I think last time I found that there was a pressure to achieve so much as we were at home, although still working! This time around though, I have not set any targets other than looking after keeping healthy.

Part of this is not only my mental health but my physical health. I have never been one to go to the gym or attend classes, however, over time I have noticed that I have been moving a lot less than I would have usually been doing at this point in the year.

I have recently signed myself up for a fitness program that I used in the past. Previously I had to have things such as chairs and weights in the program however they have recently relaunched a new program that requires just a yoga mat and you! Don’t be fooled though, this does not make it any easier. The day after the first session I was unable to walk as my legs were so sore, just trying to walk down the stairs was painful. It does get easier over time and I have started to feel so much better for it. You can also workout from home safely with the RWL fitness App, as well as work outs there is also live classes and recipes to help you along.

Alongside this, though I am going to have to take a long look at my diet. I am not one for fad diets at my age, however, I know my current diet is not helping my health. Looking into what we eat and making more from scratch will help so much in the long run and not only help my weight but my internal organs too. Keeping healthy is so much more than just a diet.

We are going to try and increase our water intake during the lockdown. I have found I reach more for the hot chocolate rather than the water at this time of the year which also does not help! The changes we bring in though will not be just for lockdown, they will be habits that we will hopefully all be able to stick to.

No matter what your plans are for lockdown 2.0, what is important is looking after yourself. There is only one of you and your health and mental health is very important.
