Monday Morning Misery

You know that sinking feeling when the alarm goes off on a Monday morning knowing you need to drag yourself out of bed and get to work? Well from today I am naming it Monday Morning Misery (or MMM for short!)

I’ve never really been one of those people who can’t wait to get to work and full of joy at going but I have to say since having the kids I am even worse. It’s a bit like having to drag myself to work on a daily basis.

I have worked since I was 15, started in a shop 2 hours everyday stacking shelves after school, then I moved to a charity filling envelopes & doing the post. I took a 6 months break at this point to start my AAT on a fast track then jumped straight back into work at a local accountants before moving to where I am now (and have been for the last 6 years!)

Here I managed to move a step up the ladder then moved back down when I went part-time (something I do not regret as I love my time on a Friday with the kids!) but now I find myself stuck between a rock and a hard place. There isn’t really anywhere to get a new job that allows me the flexibility with the children however at the same time I don’t really enjoy the job I do. It’s a tough balancing act where I have to way up the practicality and money of this role to that of another role. The thing is I don’t really want to work more hours but I want to be in a role that offers more opportunities to progress in a career.

I was having this talk with my other half this morning and he thinks a big part of the population feel the same way. How many people really get up in the morning with a spring in their step and looking forward to a day at work? Am I wrong? Do you love your job?!

I think those that do are likely to be the ones that are passionate about their chosen careers or work for themselves and have a great business that they can give 110% to all the time.

One day I may find a job that gives me something to look forward to but I think I already have, its called motherhood, just a shame it financially doesn’t pay well enough for me to be able to enjoy it full-time and pay the bills!
