Happy half term everyone and welcome back to another weekly meal plan.
We are all ready for this weeks half term break and have nothing lined up apart from taking some much needed time off to recoup and recharge after a busy few weeks. There are no plans this week, we are just going to see how each day goes and make a decision on the day. There are some bits that I plan to catch up on this week at home too, so having some time to do that will be much appreciated.
This weeks meal plan is all about using up what we have in the house. I am trying to clear out the odds and sods that we have in the house, for example, yesterday I made a beef and vegetable pie and used up the mushrooms that were going past their best and also carrots and potatoes. We are trying really hard to reduce the food waste in our house and food budget which seems to be going up and up this year!
The meals this week are simple and will be using up what we have in the house, it will help reduce the waste but also use up some bits that have been here for a while.
Anyway, let’s get back to this weeks meal plan.
Our weekly meal plan – 14/02/22
Monday –
Steak and chips – It may be Valentine’s day and although we do not celebrate it, we are going to have something yummy for dinner. Using up steaks that came with our Christmas hamper from Muscle Food and some chips from the freezer.
Tuesday –
Leftover beef and vegetable pie – This is the pie I made at the weekend, it was delicious and I plan to just reheat what is left and make some roast potatoes or mash to go with it using up potatoes we have in the fridge.
Wednesday –
Tacos – Kids favourite and likely to be a big hit, again we are going with soft and crunchy tacos as everyone likes something different. This will use up the last of the salad bits in the fridge and probably the cheese knowing what my lot are like!
Thursday –
Spanish chicken and rice – I have a sauce in the cupboard that I have had for a while so planning to use that up with the chicken that is in the freezer. Just going to serve it with rice as that is nice and simple.
Friday –
Takeaway – End of week/term treat for us all, time to put our feet up and relax!
Saturday –
Tuna pasta bake – Simple and cheap, one that gets demolished
Sunday –
Roast or stew – As always I will decide nearer the time what we will have. It may even be a case of having something like a toad in the hole or casserole, I’ll just see what we have.
I am going to try really hard over the next few weeks to cut our shopping budget. Even if we can only save £10 – £15 a week, it will soon start to add up. It may be a case of using up what we have or having simpler dishes, either way, it will all go towards saving up for our garden renovation and other plans that we have lined up for this year.
