Good morning and welcome back to another meal plan, it is the last full week of the summer holidays here as we head back to school next week. It will be a strange one for us as Ethan will be joining Kayleigh in high school however as it is his first year there he heads back a day before Kayleigh does. Not having him walking with us in the morning is going to take a little getting used to!
Meal planning during the summer holidays has been pretty easy as we are at home and it is not such an effort to cook in the evening, though I am starting to run out of meal ideas as it seems as though we have about 30 recipes to pick from and we are just repeating the same dishes over and over. My plan for this week is to write a full list of all the dishes that we actually eat as a family and then we can pick from a variety every week. I am still trying to add new dishes to our selection though and we had previously tried a Firecracker chicken recipe using Spice n Tice and I will be trying out a few new dishes from them in the coming weeks and see how they go down.
For now, though, let’s get back to what we are cooking this week in our house:
Our weekly meal plan – 23/08/21
Monday –
Fry up – We have not had this dish in a while so I am looking forward to this again. Everyone likes this as they are able to pick and choose what they would like.
Tuesday –
Nando’s chicken wraps – We will be making our own at home however they will be the same as their normal wraps.
Wednesday –
Pancakes – This has been requested by Ethan. I haven’t made them in ages so I’m sure they will be demolished.
Thursday –
Toad in the hole – I can’t remember the last time I made this dish, it is always a winner as everyone in this house loves Yorkshire puddings!
Friday –
Firecracker chicken – We had this earlier in the month and it was delicious so it is back on the menu.
Saturday –
Chilli con Carne – I may have burritos instead however as I love them too!
Sunday –
Roast – It has been a while since we made a roast dinner so I am going to do it today with all the trimmings.
It is nice to have a little bit of a variety on the menu this week, there are some dishes I know will be popular and others that will not go down so well. However, we have to keep trying to get the kids to open up their options a little more and it is starting to work as they are being a little more open to trying new dishes. I wish I could say there is a magic way to get them to eat more and ensure they eat a variety but there is not. It is all about perseverance and trial and error.
I know as they get a little older they will be a bit more open to the dishes they are eating, for now though, the testing continues and hopefully there will be some winners for the future meal plan!
