The Best Things About Autumn – Cosy Comforts, Slow Evenings & Wardrobe Must-Haves
#Collaborative post
There’s something so cosy and hopeful about the shift into autumn. As the leaves start turning, the evenings draw in a little earlier, and the air gets that crisp edge, it’s as though the world is inviting us to slow down, wrap up and savour the little things.
For someone juggling parenting and work, it’s the perfect season to lean into comfort, calm, and a few new wardrobe treats.
Here are some of the things I’m really enjoying this autumn:
1. Nature’s changing palette
Amber, rust, deep green, mustard yellow… the colours everywhere are just gorgeous. Whether it’s trees on the school run, that one tree blowing golden leaves in the wind, or the last hints of summer’s green fading, there’s magic in that transition.
I love to take a moment mid-week to just breathe in the fresh air, walk the dog or pause for a hot drink outside and feel the season around me. Although it is now starting to get a chill in the air, there is something about this season that I love.
2. The excuse to dress cosy
As the temperature dips, dressing becomes all about layering, textures and comfort. I’m loving reaching for pieces that feel snug but still put-together.
My favourite at the moment? A good pair of cosy PJs.
The women’s brushed cotton pyjama trousers in Acorn Squash Check from British Boxers as perfect for this weather, soft on your skin yet keep you warm and cosy as the cold nights draw in. They’re 100% brushed cotton, tie-waist, side pockets — practical and elegant for those quieter moments at home.
And to match that relaxed vibe, they have an organic cotton V-neck T-shirt in petrol, which matches perfectly with the pyjama trousers for that warm vibe.
Considering a little refresh of homewear and quieter day outfits this autumn? British Boxers has a full women’s collection you can browse here.

3. The shift to slow evenings
Autumn invites us to lean into “slower” evenings: think warm mugs, slow cooker meals, scented candles, soft pyjama trousers, a good series or book, and the soft glow of fairy lights.
There’s something satisfying about moving from the high-energy days of summer (especially if you’ve been chasing kids or managing a hectic work schedule) into a season where winding down becomes part of the rhythm. You feel less guilty as you take on the quieter evenings.
And when you’re wearing something you feel good in – like those brushed cotton pyjama trousers and that organic T-shirt – it elevates those simple moments.
4. Delicious food & drink
Pumpkin spice, apple cinnamon, hearty soups, warm pies, hot chocolate… autumn is all about flavours that wrap around you like a hug.
I’m planning to incorporate more family-friendly baking (apple crumble, anyone?), soup prep on Sunday evenings to get us through the midweek lunches, and cosy breakfasts with warm porridge or cinnamon granola.

5. Nature’s soundtrack
Crunchy leaves under boots, the wind rustling branches, birds migrating, shorter golden light… these are the little sensory treasures of the season.
When we are out taking the dogs for a walk in the evenings, there is a little chill in the air that comes at this time of the year but it is matched with the last of the day’s sunshine as the sun starts to fall, giving a warm glow.
6. The fresh start feel
Autumn somehow gives me the same fresh-start energy that January does: I’m resetting projects at work, organising the kids’ school stuff, cleaning cupboards, and thinking ahead to winter.
There’s a neat, energising momentum in this time of year. And if I’m comfortable in what I’m wearing at home and for casual work/wfh days, it makes that reset feel more grounded.
