2020 was a pretty crap year and let’s face it 2021 hasn’t got off to the best start. As lockdown eases later in the year, there is predicted to be a rise in staycations in the UK. Many of us are going to be looking for that break away from what for many has become at least a years worth of isolation mostly at home.
Being able to break from your routine into a life helps to break the cycle. With so many of us homeschooling and working at the same time, groundhog day is real. Getting away from it all has so many benefits for everyone.
So now you’ve decided to take a staycation, where should you go?
Top places in the UK for a staycation:
Devon – We are very lucky that Daddy Vs Work’s parents live in Devon, so when this is all over we have the chance to escape for a bit. It is a little bit of a trek from us here, about 4 1/2 hours on a clear run. However, you are greeted by gorgeous beaches, beautiful countryside and the fresh air from the south coast. There are many beautiful places in Devon that have activities for everyone. Just a quick browse on the internet and you could fill your whole stay up with activities. If you are looking for great places to stay, how about camping in Devon? There are some great places to stay 🙂
Norfolk Broads – If you are after something a little different, how about a boating holiday up and down the Norfolk Broads? With 125 miles of navigable waterways, there is space to get back outside and detox away from everyday life and technology. There is so much more to it than just the water though, with plenty of nature to be seen. Also, there is a great selection of activities and attractions.
Edinburgh – This is up on my list near the top. We have made no secret of our desire to retire up to Scotland and change our pace of life. Recently one of my friends moved up close to Edinburgh and I would love the chance to go up and explore the city. With so much to see and do, yet being so accessible it seems like a great place to visit as a family.
The benefits of a staycation
One benefit to staying in the UK is there are many ways to travel, from rail to road and the air. We would be likely to travel by car, simply because it is easier to pack everything in and go. If you don’t own a car, why not consider borrowing a car for the trip. Did you know that you can buy weekend car insurance? This would allow you to escape for a bit without the monthly costs of a car.
Another benefit to being in the UK, it is familiar but different. No matter where you go, you know if you have an emergency where to get help. Even simple things such as where to go if you run out of milk! Although many of us will be looking to get away this year, it is going to take time for us to break the new “normal”.
