It has been a while since I have written about life in general, I thought I would just write a post dedicated to it and get the words down on a page.
So much has happened this year that it has just passed in a bit of a blur and I have thought about writing this post for a while but I have never really had the words to say what I want.
2021 has been pretty shocking if I’m honest but as always we have to just get back up, dust ourselves down and go again! There have been a few times where I have just wanted to stop this year, to be honest, at times it has been pretty pants but we just take it as it comes each day and try and look at the positives. We have a warm roof over our heads, food in our cupboards and family.
Anyway, enough pity on how bad it has been at times, here is a round-up on just what has been going on.
Ethan has started high school –
This is a big one in this house, our baby has started high school! It is hard to believe that our 2 babies are in high school already and they are all growing up. He has hit the ground running with this and is loving high school and the freedom that comes with it. I on the other hand am a wreck when it comes to the school run etc.
It is hard to really remember him going through infant school and junior school as he has just grown up so quickly.
Kayleigh has become a teenager –
We have a 13-year-old in our house, it is not as bad as I first thought it may be. It is funny really when she started high school she went through this odd stage of grumpiness, now though she is a different child. I’m not sure if that is because of the year 7 never and finding her feet or just hormones! She is fast becoming a little lady and it is overwhelming how daunting the change is.
My health has not been great –
I am not the healthiest of people, my diet is atrocious however I’ve been having gut issues for a while and headed to see my doctor about it before the pandemic started. Then it all went on hold before I picked it back up in January this year. After multiple tests and samples, I was finally referred up to the local hospital for a colonoscopy to finally see what is going on in there.
The whole procedure was not the most glamourous but it gave us the chance to get to the bottom (excuse the pun!) of what was going on in the large intestine. After 16 biopsies tested, I was thankfully given the all-clear on bowel cancer however I do have some issues that need resolving. Firstly I have ulcers where my small intestine and large intestine meet, they are unsure if these are just one-offs or something as a result of a medication or even just an infection.
These are going to be monitored going forward to see what it could be, there is a chance that it is the early onset of Chron’s and that will be monitored going forward.
I do however have Colitis, Irritable Bowel Disease. At the minute it is under control and I will be seeing my consultant every 3 months with the plan to do a follow-up colonoscopy to see how things are going. I haven’t really spoken much about this, not because I am embarrassed but I just don’t want any pity. Life moves on even with this and I just have to learn to live with it and get on with it. There are far worse things going on in life at the minute for so many others.
My dad has been diagnosed with cancer –
If you follow me on social media, you will be aware my dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer just before the summer.
I won’t lie, it was a shock for us all.
The last few months have been a whirlwind of appointments, surgery and just taking things in. I am his personal uber for whatever appointments he may have, regardless of the time of the day and as a family, we will battle on and get through it.
As I said, this year has been pretty much been a shocker. However, we have our family and our health, albeit a little tender, which I am grateful for. I am also thankful to have a job and a roof over our heads. Although it has not been an easy year, we have had it easier than some.
