Good morning and welcome back to our latest edition of Wise Words Wednesday.
This week we have another great blogger to introduce you to. I came across Hollie’s blog a while back and have found it really useful for tips and hints of being thrift. Also on her social media pages she shares some great offers when she finds them, so make sure you head over and give her a like on her Facebook page and twitter.
Tell us a little bit about you & your blog:
Launched in 2016 whilst starting maternity leave, I began ThriftyMum which is a growing blog and online community for savvy parents who want to continue a great lifestyle whilst juggling the financial constraints of bringing up children.
I am a mum to James aka ThriftyBaby who is 18 months and three month old Ted. We live in East Yorkshire with Rich aka (NotSo)ThriftyDad and Lola the Boxer dog. T
What inspired you to start blogging?
Inspired by the reduction in salary that comes with the joys of maternity leave, I began to share the deals, discounts and freebies I came across with other expectant mums in various Facebook groups. Being told I had a talent for spotting a bargain I started the blog ThriftyMum and this has since evolved to include reviews of items which make being a parent an easier ride.
What has been your highlight of blogging?
I hosted a twitter chat with other UK Money Bloggers all about decluttering and making money from the clutter and how the shared economy can help you own and buy less so save you lots of money. The following day I had a live interview by presenter Georgie Frost for Share Radio. It was a great chat and hopefully got the message out to a wider audience about how to make money from your belongings.
On a more personal note, I’ve had some emails recently from people who have wanted to let me know how much I’ve helped them and those always make me tear up! After all that’s why I write www.thriftymum.com
Is there anything you have learnt about blogging which you wish you knew when you started out?
I wish I had got the Yoast plug in from the start! I still have old posts which need re-writing to make them more SEO friendly.
Bloggers sometimes get a lot of stick however many work really hard and are reaping the rewards, what has been the most rewarding part of blogging for you?
The first time I was told I had helped someone get out of debt has definitely been the most rewarding moment blogging has offered me so far.
What would be your 1 tip you would give all new bloggers starting out?
Don’t compare yourself to other people. In fact, give yourself a good year of not reading anyone else’s blogs so you can truly find your own voice and get comfortable and confident writing honestly and true to your own values.
Who do you find inspiring to read/watch in the blogging world?
Emma Drew from www.emmadrew.info held my hand through the techie part of setting up a blog. For that, I will forever be grateful for!
Lastly – do you have any big plans/dreams for your blog in the next 12 months?
In the next 12 months I plan to finish my book and have that published and commit to a regular newsletter. I have ambitions around increasing my earnings but I’m more focussed on sticking to my values than selling out just for a few extra pounds.
