5 summer garden ideas to transform the space

#Collaborative post

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner and it is the time to start thinking of those lovely days in the garden and lazy evenings under the stars. If your garden is in need of a little TLC, don’t despair, you are not alone. Our garden is in need of a total overhaul to make it ready for the summer and we are going to get cracking with that soon but there are some simple ways to revamp your garden this summer to enjoy the space that you already have.

5 summer garden ideas to transform the space

Set the mood with lights

Lighter evenings are coming but you can create an atmosphere in your garden depending on the lighting you are using and nowadays there is a huge range of exterior lights to pick from. From gorgeous outdoor string lights to solar lights and even lanterns, you can create your own little piece of paradise in your garden with minimal effort but maximum impact.

Pot up some plants

Bring a little splash of colour to your garden with some gorgeous flowers ready for spring.

If you don’t have a flower bed or raised bed to put these in, there are plenty of options for plant pots and hanging baskets now on the market and some stores even give you the option to buy them with plants in there so all you need to do when you get home is hang them up and make sure they get plenty of water. Even though we have astroturf throughout I will be looking to add some pots into our garden with pretty flowers.

Those of you worried about it being too cold to grow flowers where you live could consider making a mini greenhouse structure for your plants. Find clear plastic sheet material from Cut Plastic Sheeting and build a little structure that protects your plants from the elements. It creates a warmer climate, which also helps you grow more tropical flowers or plants for added splashes of colour!

Add some bird feeders and baths

Having wildlife in your garden is very relaxing and I love watching the birds (and occasional squirrels) coming through our garden.

By adding in some bird feeders and baths, you can welcome them in and make sure it is in a position that suits you. The last thing you want to do is add a bird feeder on your decking and then have the decking covered in seeds!

There are some gorgeous feeders on the market along with some great things such as bug houses too, which look great.

Paint your fence and woodwork

Over time if you have painted or stained your fence work, it may need to be redone and now is the perfect time to do this whilst the weather is not too hot.

It also gives you the chance to paint it in a colour to suits you. For many years the options for garden paint was brown or green but now there is a whole range of colours to pick from. So if you want to give your garden a pop of colour, why not pick a gorgeous blue or grey for a change. There is no need to stick to the normal colours, now is the chance for you to give your garden a beautiful lift.

Add a water feature

There is something calming about the sound of water and when you live as far away from the sea as we do there is little chance to take a quick drive to the beach to take in the calming sounds and sights. With a water feature in your garden, you can bring that peace into your own home and there are now a number of beautiful options to pick from.

I love the range at our local garden centre however places such as The Range and B&M also offer alternative options too.

As the summer months roll in, I can’t wait to get out in the garden and enjoy the space that we have as we make it work a bit more for us as a family. If you are planning a garden revamp, I’d love to know what is top of your wish list.
