It’s time for another Wise Words Wednesday blogger and this week we have the lovely Rhian from Rhian Westbury taking time out to answer our questions on her blogging journey.
Her blog is packed full of things she loves and it comes out in the posts, it is a great read when you get time to take a break from the rush of life. Her post about her trips in 2017 will give you the travel bug!
For now though I am going to hand the blog over to Rhian to share her thoughts on the world of blogging:
What inspired you to start blogging?
I was writing freelance alongside my full time job but was craving some more creative control over what I was writing instead of sticking to guidelines. I started my blog then in order to be able to write exactly what I want to when I want to.
What has been your highlight of blogging?
I would say either meeting some of the other lovely bloggers out there in recent months at the first two events I’ve been to, but also my first press trip to Ischia happened in October this year and it was an absolute dream come true.
Is there anything you have learnt about blogging which you wish you knew when you started out?
I wish I had known about going self-hosted and just done it to begin from instead of going on Blogger for a year or so then moving over. I also wish someone told me how addictive it can become, like it doesn’t matter how much work it takes you still want to do more to make your blog the best space you can make it.
Bloggers sometimes get a lot of stick however many work really hard and are reaping the rewards, what has been the most rewarding part of blogging for you?
The most rewarding part is when I get comments through my blog or social media from readers who relate to what I have posted about, but also when PR’s and outreach specialists email back about how much them or their client loved a post I did. It’s always nice when someone tells you you’re doing a great job.
What would be your 1 tip you would give all new bloggers starting out?
Buy your own vanity domain name straight away as you can then start building your DA and not have to worry about losing out on hard work or worrying about all the re-directs further down the line.
Who do you find inspiring to read/watch in the blogging world?
I always love to watch and read anything from Zoe London as she’s someone who works so hard on her blog and it really shines through with the quality. It helps that we’re a similar age and have very similar music tastes. I also find Jemma at Dork Face very inspiring as she’s showing that she is building her career around what she really loves
Lastly – do you have any big plans/dreams for your blog in the next 12 months?
I just want to continue building my blog in the same way I have done through 2017 really, although I do feel like a site layout change is in order for 2018.
Thank you Rhian for taking time to answer our questions. If you would like to follow her on social media you can find her on Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.
