If you are a regular reader of the blog, you will know we always struggle with meal planning weekly. Not because we don’t cook but due to fussy eaters in our house, which is why I thought I would round up some family favourite dinner ideas for you from some lovely bloggers.
For so long we have been trying to find recipes each week to add to our meal planner that everyone would eat. I use all resources when doing this including blogs, websites and cookbooks. Sometimes though I just feel like we are cooking the same recipe but with a small adjustment. Other times I feel like we are using the same meals over and over such as our Rogan recipe or even our slow cooker whole chicken.
Now, if you are after a bit of a revamp on your family dinner ideas, here are a great selection of recipes to try.
Family dinner ideas
Slow Roast Shoulder of Lamb – I love the look of this recipe and anything that is a slow-cooked meal with minimal fuss from me is always a winner! Served with some gorgeous roast potatoes, vegetables and the all-important mint sauce, this is a family winner!
Toad in the hold – Now this one is always going to be a winner, this household of 4 can go through 12 Yorkshire puddings in one sitting of a roast dinner! Combining sausages and Yorkshire puddings for a weekday winner is a great idea!
Butternut Squash and Mushroom Lasagne – If you are a fan of lasagne but after something a little different then this may be the one for you. I personally love butternut squash and I am sure this is the perfect combination in a lasagne.
Lemon & Herb Roast Chicken with Gravy – A roast is always going to be a winner in this house, however, if you are looking for something a little different this
Best Vegan Chilli Sin Carne Recipe – I am a fan of chilli con Carne, but I’ve never made a vegetarian/vegan version. Not because I have to have meat, but I’ve never thought about how to pack the flavours into the dish. This recipe looks delicious and is a great alternative to the meat version.
Chicken Jalousie – This recipe looks like a great crowd pleaser and I think is one that could come out for a variety of different meal times, whether you have friends over or just looking for some comfort food in the colder months. I can see this one appearing on our meal plan in the coming weeks as the kids eat everything in this recipe!
Beetroot Pesto Pasta Salad– Kids love colour and this pasta definitely has lots of that! If you are looking for something a little different to get their attention then this dish is the one for you.
Courgetti with Tomato, Chorizo and Olives – Courgetti is becoming more and more popular, especially as it is a healthier option. Adding flavour using chorizo and olives is such a good idea, this recipe is a great alternative to pasta or spaghetti, which I use too often!
Twice-baked loaded sweet potatoes – I love sweet potatoes, they are just so much tastier than normal potatoes. Recently I have been having stuffed potatoes for lunch however, I’ve never thought to do it with sweet potatoes. I’m going to give this recipe a go and you never know maybe the kids will try it.
Vegetable Lasagne with Mediterranean vegetables – Another lasagne recipe however this one is made with Mediterranean vegetables and I am a huge fan of things like courgette etc. They can be so filling but can be so adaptable to various different flavours.
Hopefully, some of these dishes may have inspired you to try out something new next time on your meal plan. I would love to know if you have a family favourite meal, feel free to leave a link below!
