Are you meeting your future in-laws for the first time this Christmas? If so, you might be wondering what to wear. Of course, looks aren’t everything, but the right attire will certainly help you make a good first impression. With this in mind, here’s how you should dress to impress – without going over the top.
Avoid low-cut tops and dresses
There’s no harm in flashing a little flesh, but your partner’s parents certainly won’t want to see the results of your latest breast enlargement procedure or the pattern on your bra. As a result, it’s a good idea to avoid low-cut items and to opt for something a little more modest. We’re not talking polar necks and sleeves down to your wrists, just a garment that won’t reveal too much of you on a first meeting. After all, you’ll be nervous enough without having to face awkward stares and embarrassing questions.
Team your skirt with tights or leggings
If you want to wear a skirt that’s a little on the short side, team it with a pair of thick winter tights or leggings. That way, you can put on what you want without having too much leg on show. This will keep your dignity intact, but will allow your style and identity to shine through. If you don’t like covering up your legs, perhaps try wearing something a little longer for that first meeting – just until you work out how much you can get away with.
Don’t be afraid of glamour
Whether you’re having Christmas dinner round at your in-laws house, or are going out to a restaurant, don’t be afraid of a little glamour. The festive season is the perfect time to wear glittery, sparkly outfits, so hit the shops and see what you can find. Sure, you don’t want to look like a bauble on a Christmas tree, but there are plenty of clothes out there that will flatter your figure and make your stand out from the crowd –in a good way. You could even learn how to apply glittery makeup and look fabulous for the big day.
Be careful with heels
While your six-inch heels might be ideal for a night on the town, they’re probably not the best thing to wear for a day out with strangers. Instead, stick to small kitten heels if you’re wearing a dress or team pretty flats with skinny jeans. If possible, try to find out what you’ll be doing with your loved one’s folks, as this might influence which footwear you choose. They might like country walks, for instance, so you’ll need a good pair of trainers.
Your partner is likely to a great cleavage or long legs, but try to be a little respectful around parents.
