Our homes always end up full of clutter but none more so than kid’s bedrooms. Every Christmas and birthday the toy pile just gets bigger and bigger. They grow out of clothes so quickly that you end up with piles of clothes everywhere. When it gets bad there can be toys sat there they haven’t played with for months or even a year so it’s important to stay on top of the cleaning and sorting and just having things that your kids are interested in. Sometimes having too much choice can be overwhelming for them when choosing an activity to do or toy to play with.
One of the things to start sorting out first is the clothes. You wanna set some time aside to do this because it can be a mammoth task and can be overwhelming. Pull everything out of all the drawers in the wardrobe, put it on the bed, and then sort through one by one, check the sizes, check for any rips or loose threads that need fixing, and make some piles. You want a pile of things to keep, a pile of things for away, and a pile of clothes to give to charity or to a secondhand store. Depending on the age of your children and how interested they are in their clothes you may also want to get them involved so you don’t throw away something they really want. It will save so much time.
Another great way to save space with clothing in your kid’s bedrooms is to sort them into two groups. One for spring/summer and one for autumn/winter. Then you can just have out the clothes for the season needed and the others can stay in storage until they are needed.
The next thing to start sorting is just as much of a big task and that is the toys. With toys, you will want the same 3 piles, ones to keep, ones to throw away, and ones to give away. If you are going to be giving them to charity or away to others you will need to make sure that everything is there that is supposed to be. So if you are giving a jigsaw away then make sure all the pieces are there. If you have things in good condition you could even make some money off them and sell it. There are all different ways to sell toys like the Facebook marketplace, eBay, and lots of other ways. There are also specific ways for different popular toys like LEGO. When sorting out toys to give away to charity, doing it around Christmas time is best as the toys in good condition can then be wrapped and gifted to kids who are less fortunate and may not get many or any toys. It is a great way to give back and make a kid’s Christmas that bit more special and one they won’t forget.
